Excellent resort Overall a VERY GOOD resort. Buffet food very good. A la carte food also good, and you dont need a reservation and usually get a table right away or a short wait. Beach was beautiful, little to none seaweed and rocks. pools are beautiful. Service is amazing. getting a chair by the pools or beach is usually not an issue. getting issues with the room is easily dealt with using the app. drinks are very good! lots of selection. also all a la carte/bar menus you scan the QR code and can put on your phone. i would return to this place. The only negatives were the AC in the room had a hard time getting to the temperature we set it at. The a la carte restaurants all should have a dessert on the menu rather some of them you help yourself to a buffet style of desserts like whats at the buffet. a few staff also need slightly better grasp of the English language. But overall the negatives are minor, and this is a great resort, and i would return.

10 years since we have been in this resort We stayed 10 years ago with our family at Riu Tequila and wanted to visit the area again. Our check in was very swift after a long flight, and our room was in block 5 on the ground floor. It did not get sun during the day at any point as it was facing the side of the site, but was very well equipped, spotlessly clean and close to the pools and beach. There were a lot of South American visitors in the hotel, which seemed to add to the atmosphere of the hotel. We did have an unfortunate departure delay (cloud software "worldwide" problem) and stayed in the more expensive Riu Palace for a day (which has more US guests), which although "grander" did not seem to have the same atmosphere. We dined in all the restaurants and would recommend the Italian one. The main buffet and breakfasts were great - and the staff everywhere in the hotel were wonderful. We never really had to wait for a seat to dine. The one meal which left us disappointed was the steak restaurant, where the food was nice, but the waiting staff were over-worked- under staffed, and therefore slow on drinks etc. The Mexican one next door to it was very good. We walked into the town and caught the ferry to Cozumel of our own backs and I dived with Scuba Caribe on the beach - very accomplished set-up, very easy to deal with and will dive according to your experience level - 3 turtles an eagle ray and a grey reef shark on the morning drift dive 10 minutes on the boat from the beach at the hotel next door. The Friday night neon party was a blast (don't really need to do Coco Bongo) and most entertainment was very lively and very professional. There was always beds available at the beach if you wanted a leisurely start to the day and couldn't get down to the pool. We will definitely come back to the Riu hotels here.
