Many Better Places. Not a true all-inclusive resort. Arrived 9 hours ago and so far I am very, very disappointed . I am traveling with a child who uses a wheelchair. The resort was supposed to be wheelchair compatable. We checked-in and were told that the elevator is not working because they are doing construction so we were not able to get the Superior Pool Room that we paid for. If I knew this before I left I would have canceled and picked a different resort We worked with a travel agent and Amstar was the transport company hired to take us from the airport to the resort. The van was lucky it made it to the resort. It was best up, and the a/c vents were coming out of their position. It reminded me of something out of an Indiana Jones movie. We get to the room and the a/c in the room doesn't get any colder than 73. The room is not as hell and it is 100 degrees outside. We went to the pool to cool off. Didn't work. The pool was almost as hot as the room. The wifi is non-existent. I cannot even text my own family when they are in the same room, let alone anyone back home. There are four restaurants on property. We find out that we are only entitled to make reservations for three dinners because we were staying 7 nights. All other dinners had to be eaten in the buffet restaurant. If we wanted to eat in the restaurants on any of the other 4 nights we are hear, we needed to be at the reservation desk by 2 pm. No exceptions. WE WERE NEVER MADE AWARE OF THIS RULE Let's talk about the wine. If you like wine, don't come here. They do not serve Cabernet Sauvignon at any of the bars. They only serve Merlot and it is absolute garbage. I'm not kidding. It really is disgusting. If you want the good wine, expect to pay extra for it, with a minimum of $35 per bottle. And you can ONLY get it in the aforementioned restaurants. We are at the buffet and the snack bar and the food was good. The staff are very nice and accommodating. THIS PLACE IS NOT A TRUE ALL-INCLUSIVE RESORT. This review is not about the personnel of the hotel. The place needs some major upgrades. I was in the travel business for 25 years and this is not what I expected when I booked this resort. This is definitely not a 4-star resort. Not even close. Three at best.

Fantastic hotel but needs more air conditioned areas Just returned from a lovely holiday at Viva Wyndham Maya. We booked a superior partial sea view room, room was nice, fridge empty, balcony small and the WiFi reception wasn’t very good in the room. (Room 1307). There was a huge smart TV that seemed to keep its connection well so we were able to watch Netflix. The housekeeping was very good and we came back to our room daily wondering what ‘towel art’ had been left for us. Tip - Remember to take a bottle that you can fill with water from the corridor to keep in the fridge. The main buffet restaurant was very hot (no air conditioning and just large ceiling fans). There was also a lack of air conditioned areas to visit in the day when you just need to escape from the heat. We found the food very good, great tacos and lots of guacamole, our son (14) thought otherwise but he is a very fussy eater and didn’t eat any dinner for 2 nights. There needs to be more selection for children at the buffet eg fries and just margarita pizza without any toppings. The lunches at the pool were good, fries, pizza, burgers and hotdogs. We were able to book the speciality restaurants easily by visiting guest services for booking our first 2, then the remainder on the app. We had 6 bookings for a 2 week stay. We didn’t get bored of the food at all. The Mexican restaurant was probably our favourite but we enjoyed the steak in Portfino and the Cosmopolitan. Everyone who served us was very friendly and helpful. The bars were really good and offered a brilliant selection. Baileys equivalent is available from the lobby bar and there is a huge cocktail menu. The sports bar, open from 6pm (age 14+) had 2 pool tables and a football table. The atmosphere and surroundings around the hotel were very tropical, and we saw a coati and lots of Agouti wondering around. The hotel is in a good location, with some shops just over the road (go outside the front gate and turn right). A lot further down the road towards the town centre is an aviary which was a nice walk around (300 pessos per adult and under 12 free). The beach looked stunning, lovely white sand, the sea wasn’t stoney at all. Hardly any seaweed during our first week, it did start to build a little during our second week but nothing that would spoil our holiday. Lots of shade on the beach with the palm trees. There needs to be umbrellas and more shade around the pool. We booked our exursions with Viva excursions in the Lobby. We did Chichen Itza and also swimming with turtles/cenote/tulum (Ocean tours) with both tours we were the only English speakers but the tour was both in English and Spanish. We really enjoyed the cenotes. We went to tsukan cenote near chichen itza and yum balam. Tip - Remember bug spray !!! For the turtle snorkelling we had to jump off a boat, our guide (particularly with ocean tours), Raffi was very good. The excursions were very expensive. Especially as they are charging adult price for children over 11 years old. What was annoying was that our son was classed as an adult for the excursions but wasn’t allowed in the adult pool at the hotel (16+). Either he’s an adult or a child not both to suit your convenience. We experienced lots of children in the Jacuzzi, jumping in, splashing, swimming when it is meant to be 12+, they need to enforce this better. It would have been nice to use the quieter pool. Overall it was our first time to Mexico and we loved it. Sure, the hotel isn’t perfect but if they can sort out having more air conditioned areas it would be a massive improvement. Would love to come back. Didn’t see the TUI rep until the last day, we booked with first choice who messaged on the app to say there wasn’t a rep at the hotel so when booking again (maybe next year?!, will book with TUI directly).
