Needs upgrades for the price I wouldn’t say this hotel is worth four stars, I’d say more like 3. My husband and I stayed for one night when visiting the city. Valet is very professional, front desk staff is pleasant, but the room doesn’t match the price you pay. The bed is hard, the pillows need to be replaced (they were not comfortable at all), all of the amenities were as if we stayed at a motel - including toiletries, and they need to clean better. There was mucus on the wall - you read correctly, and hair in the shower. The hotel management needs to upgrade based on what guests pay to stay at this location.

Don't pay for the waterview upgrade The staff is lovely. The valets are friendly and the desk staff is polite. I paid extra for a room with a water view. If I look over the parking lot between two buildings, I can see a little bit of water. Don't waste your money (or points) on the upgrade. The bathroom is large and clean.

Terrible Experience with Valet Service at Hampton Inn Portland, Maine I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn in Portland, Maine, and my experience was absolutely dreadful. Upon arrival, I was informed that the only parking option was to use their valet service. The following morning, I was horrified to discover that one of the valets had backed into my car, causing significant damage. The door was so badly damaged that it couldn't even be opened. Despite being assured that someone would contact me to resolve the issue, I have been met with complete silence. I have called every day for the past week, and not a single person has been able to provide me with their insurance information or offer any assistance. This level of negligence and lack of accountability is unacceptable. I trusted the Hampton Inn brand to provide a secure and reliable service, but this experience has shattered that trust. I strongly advise against using their valet service or staying at this location until they address their serious customer service and operational issues.

No sheet under duvet We checked in with an unfriendly receptionist, the style "be glad that you can be here at all". Our room was on the 4th floor, with the central air conditioning right in front of it, making the room sound like a machine room. In the bathroom they had a real shower curtain which looked about 20 years old. The chair at the desk was so worn that there were pieces missing from the upholstery. In the bed there was no sheet under the duvet which I have never seen before. When we asked for one, housekeepimg came over and handed us a crumpled sheet and then we were allowed to make the bed. This experience cost us 382 USD for one night. Welcome to the Hampton Inn, Portland, Maine.

Excellent value for money hotel in heart of downtown Portland We recently stayed at the Hampton Inn and were delighted with our choice. While the hotel is relatively no frills, it represent excellent value for money in an excellent location for exploring the Old Port and Art District areas of Portland. The hotel has a small indoor pool that is open late and our kids enjoyed. Breakfast is also excellent, and while it only offers buffet options, well stocked with eggs, bacon and sausage, as well as fresh fruit, pastries and waffles. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The real plus however is the location. There must be ~12 very good restaurants within 200m in either direction of the hotel including Mr. Tuna, Honey Paw and Eventide (all highly recommended), You can also walk into the Old Port area within ~5mins to Exchange street or the quayside / waterfront area for shopping, breweries and distilleries galore.
