Historic comfy hotel Stayed here for an Oregon Convention Center conference (took MAX light rail 4 stops back & forth, <15min). Beautiful historic hotel w updated rooms and comfy beds. Helpful staff including Harold at afternoon check-in and Clarissa evenings at the front desk were friendly and helpful. Close to Powell's Books, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Would totally stay here again.

Not as good as reviewed Our team of 5 booked two weeks at the Benson as it was the most central location for our work. I had read all the latest reviews and felt we should have a great experience here, but the hotel seems to have a few issues affecting my rating. Unfortunately, we arrived on July 19th, which was the Crowdstrike outage, and the hotel systems were down. I was not faulting them for this, as they could not control it. They were using paper and pen to note the rooms and manually assign them to guests. This took some time, but they were able to assign us to all our rooms. We all were able to access our rooms, but one person on our team could not and it was found to be an issue with the electronic door look. After an hour, they finally assigned him a new room. ROOM - After checking out and going through it, my room was fine. It was clean and probably a step above a Hilton Garden Inn. The bathroom was clean, but the shower pressure was lacking, and hot water was sometimes a hit or miss during our two-week stay. It was never cold, but sometimes, the hottest it would get was lukewarm. There was some mold in the shower, but I always buy Clorox Bleach Bathroom cleaner on long stays and cleaned that right up. GYM - The gym was definitely a plus. It was a full gym with more equipment than you would expect. We used the gym a lot and was happy to have such a nice gym. BAR/Restaurant - The Palms drinks and bar are great, but the food was average. We only ate the food once since the one time we tried it, it was mediocre and there was better food around the hotel. The servers and bartender were a plus here as they were very friendly and always wanting to please. PARKING - Valet is the only option here at $49 a night, but you can overnight park at the garage next door for $28 a night and the Benson uses the same garage for its Valet. The Valets are friendly though and prompt to get your vehicle. ISSUES 1.) Being a Diamond member, I researched and read that the daily credit for Diamond members was $30 a night. After checking in, I was told by one front desk person that the credit was $15 and I could not use it for the Sundries and only for the Palms. After checking out and leaving, I found that they did not credit me for three days of the $15 credit and called the hotel. The front desk clerk said he would credit my account the $30 a day I was supposed to receive. 2.) Showers - I had to switch rooms after two days since my shower would leak water all over the bathroom floor and completely soak the bath mat. Also the water pressure and hot water was not what I would expect from a more upscale hotel. 3.) AC - While my AC had no issues, a team member could not get his room to cool below 70 degrees and finally moved rooms. 4.) Location - This is a plus and minus. Being downtown, you are close to a lot of attractions and restaurants, but you are also close to all the noise and the homelessness. I even heard a loud gunshot one night that woke me up. I feel that the hotel is a bit run down from its glory days and the staff needs to be better trained on what the benefits for diamond members are. I did not feel that being Diamond made any difference here.

Nice for a large reunion. We attended a reunion of about 120 previous co-workers. The Benson mezzanine and lobby were ideal for gathering and chatting. The ballroom worked well for an evening dinner. Our corner room was pleasant and spacious. The woodwork and historical touches were lovely. The location was convenient for walks and sightseeing. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Portland.

Amazing stay at the Benson We had an amazing stay at the Benson for our first time in Portland. It was close to everything downtown and the staff was amazing. Breakfast was phenomenal and Bobby helped us with all of our questions for our day trips! Will definitely return.
