Hotel shut down 2 weeks before we were due to visit for our honeymoon I am writing this review not really to comment on the hotel as an experience, as I sadly did not get to experience it, but am commenting to warn others by sharing my story as our honeymoon was ruined, and I can see on reviews that another lady's wedding was ruined, which is even worse. This place is not structurally sound and cannot take a hit of rain. Two weeks before we were due to fly out we got an email from Mr & Mrs Smith saying that the hotel had closed due to a storm. Cuixmala, which is another hotel on the coast of Jalisco, claimed that there was no storm and just a little rain. Hacienda San Angel, another hotel in Puerto Vallarta said that Desconocido had been closing and opening and changing hands ever since it first opened. I was told about Desconocido by a friend at work, who said it was gorgeous, and I can see from pictures and reviews that this was the case. But when I first went to book it, the hotel was closed. I should have run a mile then, but a month later I received a call from Mr & Mrs Smith to say it was open again and so I booked it. I was told the closure was due to new management and that nothing had changed that would effect our stay. All I can say is, this place is risk. And I advise not book it separately to your flights as we did because then you cannot get your flight money back (that's a big expense when flying from the UK!), even with insurance. And if you have travel insurance, make sure it covers natural catastrophe as ours didn't at the time. There was nowhere else other than Cuixmala in reach (which was way over our budget and not quite what we were looking for for our honeymoon) so our honeymoon never happened. I received nothing from the hotel – no apology, no word at all. Even notice of the cancellation didn't come through them, so clearly there is not enough care there. They are closed now (Sept), since April, and will no doubt open again... All I can say is, you have been warned!

Ruined Wedding This place is a joke. I booked my wedding there and they assured me everything would be perfect. Then they said it's too hard for them to do the paperwork to marry Americans. They suggested we have a quick legal ceremony before going there for a beautiful shaman ceremony on the beach. That should have been my first red flag but stupid me I agreed. Then a couple month later I received an email from them canceling my reservation. The email claimed some recent storms had damaged the resort so badly they would have to close ... In two weeks. I guess the damage is ok for the guests there now but will require they shut down two weeks later. I could t find anything online about any storms in that area between the time of booking and the time of cancellation. The reservation was secured with a deposit on a credit card but they couldn't credit it back to the card because their machine was broken. Sure it was. Sounds like they are broke and can't pay their merchant fees. What other excuse could there possibly be? The worst part of the entire ordeal was the woman I was exchanging emails with told me it is just her job so she doesn't feel bad about canceling my wedding. I did get my deposit back but I'm out almost $6000 on other wedding arrangements that I can't get back. Not to mention I have to start from scratch and figure out an entire new wedding on short notice. But gee I'm glad it's just a job to her. I would t want her to feel bad or anything. The pics are beautiful and there are some good reviews but I still have to say RUN. The risk isn't worth the reward here.

Speechless in paradise After a long drive, with some unconfortable roads that make you question yourself what the hell are you doing there? When that pair of doors open you really get into paradise, every corner seems to be designed by a proffessional photographer, lot of details in the deccor and spaces, the rooms are simply magical, and the spa installations really deserves a full afternoon on it, my only suggestion is that it must be an adults only place. I want to recognize the outstanding service and food quality, big applause to the chef.

Wow! I never imagined this could exist in Mexico Hotelito Desconocido translates into english to The little unknown Hotel. I pride myself of knowing most of Mexico and almost all of the boutique hotels. This hotel is amazing in every way; every room is different, thousands of candles and no electric light's, food is splendid, take a small panga to get to your room or shower out in the open with an amazing showerhead....... This is boutique as good as it can possibly get.

Rural hideaway A real escape if ever there was one. A turtle sanctuary where we experienced turtles hatching and had the opportunity to help them scuttle to the ocean, this was a fantastic lesson for our three children...... Food here was amazing, the staff were second to none and the place itself, heaven on earth for us but a little rustic so may not suit everyone.
