Day 6 of Epic Road Trip The Pollard Hotel is a great historic hotel in the heart of downtown Red Lodge. It’s comfy rooms offer a wonderful over night stay! They offer a newly renovated gym and they have racquetball! New restaurant owners. We did not get to eat there but locals say it’s good.

Hospitality at its finest! My wife and two daughters stayed at The Pollard Hotel to set up our entry into east YNP the following morning. Being from a small town myself, my expectations were low. Boy, was I caught off guard! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we experienced nothing less than 5-star service. The hotel is historic and feels as such. If you are looking for a Ritz Carlton experience, this is not your place. That being said, we have stayed at many luxury hotels through the years and have never been treated as well as we were treated at The Pollard. We checked in and the staff gave my girls each a stuffed moose, which each had names within 10 minutes. After getting situated, we walked down Broadway Avenue to enjoy a nice dinner less than a block away. We also made a quick stop at Montana Candy Emporium, a throwback candy store just across the street. After a comfortable night's rest we awoke and had breakfast at the hotel. I have no idea how they prepared such amazing food so quickly. We enjoyed omelets and the best Belgian waffles we have ever tasted. This place was such an unexpected treat to kick off our YNP trip!

Bait & Switch We have gone to this hotel many times over the years, and I must say who ever is running it now has ruined the experience. We reserved a large handicapped room because my husband needs a handicap shower with a seat, needless to say we got the smallest room in the hotel, I did not get any discount or apology the manager was supposed to call but so for nothing...This was our 30th anniversary, and it was ruined. They have also ruined the beautiful high class restaurant, it now has an awful menu and the worst service I have ever had anywhere! Please don't waste your money!

Interesting, but overpriced Pros: Friendly staff. Kind of old-timey cool hotel. Clean. Good restaurant (we only had breakfast). Cons: (1) SMALL standard rooms, high price. Ours was 11' by 17'--187 square feet. Nice, but really small. (Asked about upgrade at check-in. The clerk did smile, but didn't seem to actually react.) (2) Didn't know they still made toilet paper that thin. Theoretically two-ply, but you could still see through it.

Great location and historic site We loved our stay at the Pollard. Friendly staff, lots of history, and great breakfast! Would highly recommend as an authentic western experience. Great for our family of 4 with 2 young adults. Walk to shops and restaurants/bars.
