Absolutely lovely stay at the Villas I don't know the story of what happened to the Horned Dorset post Hurricane Maria, but I have to say that someone knows the potential that is here. The hotel was closed, but the Villas seem to be going under renovation, whether it' one company or individual owners - I do not know. It's not for everyone - you have to be a bit forgiving of things, but if you are visiting Puerto Rico and want the Ritz, then stay at the Ritz. While it is not quite at the point where I would say it's luxurious, I hope that it gets there AND even if it doesn't, I would go back. The lovely accommodations and cleanliness of our Villa made us look past what we assume was a towel to soak up any water that may come through the corner of the place. The private dipping pool and chairs needed tending, but the main pool for the Villas was amazing, so we just spent our time there. The bed was SO comfortable and the furnishings and ambience really took you back in time. Although, I don't think the place is actually all that old. The hotel opened in '87 but prior to that it was a private home - not sure when it was built. Flowers were everywhere on the grounds - the orchids in the trees, bushes around the pool and a huge mango tree in our backyard. And, I took a tour around the hotel property, where it was open. There was a basket of goodies for us when we arrived with tequila, pineapple juice, limes, bananas and apples. We didn't have any issues, except the gate wouldn't open once and the contact was responsive. We felt like we had the pool all to ourselves, since there were only a few other people around. I felt completely safe at all times. I wouldn't even have mentioned that, but I saw an earlier comment about safety. It's a great location, easy to get to downtown Rincon and to points east e.g. Ponce.

SCAM. BANKRUPT. FRAUD. The bankruptcy case versus The Horned Dorset Primavera INC is ongoing. I would like you to know of our recent experience there. This hotel continues to scam naive tourists such as myself. READ REVIEWS BEFORE CONSIDERING PLEASE! We booked our winter vacation after speaking to Mr Wilhelm Sack on the phone. He required a deposit of $998 which we sent through PayPal. When we arrived he required us to pay the balance in full of an additional $1077 through PayPal before we saw the room. The pictures online do not represent the current property. Imagine you just flew many hours with your wife and children and then rented a car and drove almost 3 hours to arrive a location you have never been to before. When we arrived on December 23rd 2019 at about 9 am the roads and walkways were not clear. The room we were shown did not have running hot water. During the three hours were on the property the power was out for two of them. The room smelled of mildew. The pool was closed. The chairs had no cushions. There were no umbrellas. The restaurant was closed. We received no service from any hotel employees. Not even help with our bags. This property was not running as advertised. It was clear to my wife and myself that we could not spend four nights in such a location. We did not feel safe without electricity or hot water. The walkways were kept not in a condition which I could expect my children to use without danger to themselves. Mr. Sack was present when we arrived and then unreachable in person or phone for the remainder of the three hours we spent there. The only means we had to communicate with him was via text. We asked for a refund and left the property as we found it at about noon. This all occurred before his posted check in time. He denied us a refund and we proceeded to request a refund through PayPal. Our case with PayPal was denied as well. There was another family who also did not feel safe and left as we did. It is clearly a property in need of millions of dollars of attention to restore it to it's former beauty. Until then, DON'T GO! Clearly this is not a functioning property. The plaintiff in the ongoing case is aware of the current situation. The only way unsuspecting tourists can be protected from this continuing to happen is to NOT GO! I have included pictures we took while there, and encourage you to read posts online we found later.

Quiet comfort This charming seaside property was exactly what we were looking for in Rincon -- unique, attentive service, intimate, quiet, and comfortable. Yes, Maria took its toll as others have mentioned, but if you're going to Puerto Rico these days you have to expect a few bumps here and there. Dinner was wonderful and the views from the dining room were phenomenal. Sunset was such a treat. We also appreciated the lack of TV and Wi-Fi. A few quibbles travelers should know: Lots of steps all over the property and in the room, and the main shower in our room was needlessly fussy (needs written instructions). Our "garden" room was in earshot of a generator (only noticeable when outside in the private pool). Next time we would pay the premium for a room facing the ocean.

Hurricane Maria was rough on them Horned Dorset is a lovely hotel tucked away in the hustle and bustle of surfers and tourists. The hotel was quite impacted by Hurricane Maria in 2017. I could see sign of its glory days - fine attention to detail in style & furnishing, warm hospitality, private beach entry, pools, restaurants. The hotel team is working hard to bring the hotel back to its feet and I really wish them well. I still recommend this place to easy going couples looking for a tropical experience and to unplug from the busy world - no wifi in room, no TV. However, since the hotel is still recovering from a serious natural disaster adjust your expectations appropriately. The room itself is clean, tastefully decorated, has plenty of space and a private pool. Note that there are a lots of steps in this property.

Do not comply with minimum requirements to stay Hotel overall still showing significant damages from hurricane Maria. Significant mold odor in the room. Dirty private pool not functional with chemical floating and green surfaces. A/C didn’t work. Administration asked us to give it time to cool down, but never worked. Shower heads plugged and full of scaling. Wall accessories full of fungus. No TV. No WiFi and not cell phone signal in rooms. No longer beach area, water has created erosion of sand under building which already shows cracks with possible integrity damage. Main pool in same conditions as private pool. Parking in a mud area. No illumination in parking area (unsafe). Just one person to support the whole operation during nights. All floor and bath with significant disgusting white scaling. No hot water. Everything corroded and dirty in receiving area (lobby). We finally had to leave because AC never worked and they said they didn’t have nobody to fix it. The only one night staff recommended us to leave and now we are struggling to receive a refund. The administrator (which was not there to talk) says that we wait too much to leave, therefore we have to pay for the whole night.
