This hotel needs a renovation age is now showing in almost every aspect and the place is quite worn out. there is a weird moldy smell all over the hotel with the bathroom taps old & leaky, the breakfast is very limited and it is the exact same food everyday. does not provide any tea or coffee facilities in the room & note you will have pay for the bottled water they provide. the bathroom had a European bidet next to the toilet so the space was pretty cramped.is located in Copacabana but is actually pretty far from the heart of the town and the beach (more so on the edge of town). I would probably look for another hotel if i stayed

Do not stay here If you do not want to get rid of your things and clothes, do not stay here as the cleaners will take them. We lost several of our things and after talking to the staff we were told at the reception that they were looking but could not find our things, and that we hade to fill out a police report if we wanted to take action as they did not intend to do anything about it. We did not even receive an apology or compensation of any kind. Never come across more nonchalant people who didn't even try to prove apologetic. The rooms were also boring and confined where we were first placed right next to the extremely loud elevator and overlooking the highway despite having asked for a quiet room, this was fortunately at least changed but really feels sorry for those who got that room instead. Also a really boring area that despite the proximity to the beach lacked any wider range of good restaurants or proximity to things to see and experience.

Great location good amenities and nice staff I enjoyed the location, the service and the helpful staff. The room is very clean, good size and very quite. The breakfast is excellent with good selection. But most importantly, its very safe. The views from the roof are beautiful in addition to the pool and the bar.

Lovely hotel in a great location! The Merlin is situated only a 5 minute walk from Copacabana beach, and about a 30 minute walk/10 minute drive to Sugarloaf mountain. There are shops and local amenities nearby which was also handy. Staff were lovely and very helpful, and you can book excursions from the lobby with pick up and drop off from the hotel included (including paragliding, and day trips to the majority of Rio's iconic sights). The rooms were very spacious with a nice bathroom and working air con. The breakfast buffet had a great selection and tea on the night time was lovely too. I felt safe in the area where the hotel is too, even at night. Overall I had a great stay here and would recommend this hotel!

Great location - perhaps in need of a little TLC The location of this hotel is really good - about 5 minutes walk to Copacabana beach and a short walk to a shopping mall with banks supermarket etc very nearby. The rooms are adequate but probably in need of a bit of modernising - that said perfectly clean and acceptable for us. Breakfast was extensive with fresh fruit , cooked options and pastries etc. Also has a small gym in the hotel underneath the (small) rooftop pool which has a view of Copacabana. Some sunbeds and some chairs are available as well as towels form the bar area.Bar food also available at the pool. Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful - the reception and concierge staff helped to arrange a private transfer for us to Buzios at very short notice which was very much appreciated.
