Great for a Hospital Over Night Stay This hotel is located on the UC Davis Medical campus on Y Street. We were able to get a early check in request at time of reservation which was very helpful, then our hospital appointment got moved ahead by the hospital by almost 2 hours so we called the hotel en route asking if we could check in even earlier than expected and they said that was fine so we were able to check in just before noon since they had a couple of double Queen rooms ready to go. The Room & bathroom were clean and the 2 Queen beds were comfortable as well as the pillows. Our room had a small microwave and a small refrigerator which was helpful to store some food we brought with us. The small cafe on site, The Bistro, had really good hot sandwiches too. You can also buy frozen meals or snacks near the lobby area and take them to your room and heat them up in the microwave if you like. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Only drawbacks were that the hotel charges you $20 a night for parking and the 2 chairs in the room were pretty worn out. Also there is a lot of construction going on in this campus area so sometimes the constant traffic around here can be a hassle to deal with. This hotel is across the street from Shriners Children's hospital and the UC Davis Medical Center is another street over at 4251 X Street so we were able to walk from the hotel to our appointment at the UC Davis hospital through the Shriner's walkway/roadway and then cross X street over to the hospital, it was nice not having to deal with the parking garage over at the hospital.

Rooms take a very long time to prepare and process. Checking in at the front desk it’s nice being offered a room upgrade. Yet when the house cleaning staff can’t get your room set up more an hour and a half the charity goes out the window. I’d rather just have my room. The parking lot is not full and it dies not appear to be busy. Maybe it’s another staffing shortage or at least we can blame that. This is the second time I’ve stayed here. Everyone is cheerful but the job isn’t getting done.

Uneven It seems that my previous gratifying experiences with Courtyard --both the US and Europe-- were no indication of how this stay in Sacramento would be. Worst would have to be the surprise expense that there is a $20 charge for each day one stays here and uses the parking lot. Unpleasant would have to be that meals from the bar are indifferent, uninspired, awkward. (Why does personnel appear to be disgruntled?) Not great would be the oversized to the point of useless "chair" furnishing the room. Hard pillows? But of course. This is a general complaint about all hotels these days: there is a pretense to being up to date, yet there were not enough electric outlets to charge the array of devices some of us have with us. Also, with luggage taking all surfaces, where is one to sit while doing anything? A positive was that the Amana heater functioned well. It was not loud as so many others are.

Mediocre experience We are Gold members who came for a hospital appointment but did not feel welcomed. Convenience isn’t worth it. Without the hospital traffic, it would be a “pass.” Ronald McDonald House would be a better choice.
