Outstanding in every way Spent 3 days with my daughter in the deluxe double queen suite. Huge rooms with a very nice bar area. We were on the 5th floor, street side, so there was some traffic noise. The hotel is located within walking distance of numerous restaurants, the River Front Park and Minto-Brown Island Park, the beautiful Willamette University and other historical landmarks. It was a great place to stay to explore the Salem area and Willamette Valley wineries. The hot breakfast is now back. Last but not least, the hotel does not charge a daily fee to park in the garage, which many city hotels do. All of the staff from the front desk to the breakfast room and maid service are extremely friendly and helpful. Plan to stay here again in future visits to the area.

Very Nice Independently Run Hotel The staff at The Grand Hotel are extremely friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The location is excellent as the hotel sits in the center of downtown Salem with plenty of shops and restaurants in a walking distance.Due to the Pandemic they offer a continual type breakfast that you pick up in the lobby. When you check in your are given an order sheet to chose from.

Comforting care during a hard time - December 2019/January 2020 This review has less to do with the facility itself and more to do with the employees who staffed it at the time. I understand that Covid-19 has changed circumstances and that employees may have been furloughed. I hope that as the travel industry comes back up to speed these people will be re-employed if they have been furloughed because they are worth their weight in gold. I swore I would thank the following people: Front Desk: Jordan, Allie, Raeha, Ryan, Rachel, Bridget & Brooke. Breakfast Servers: Nadine & Michele. My father had a series of last minute health issues in 2019 which ultimately resulted in his death in January 2020. This caused a number of last minute trips to Salem. December & January were particularly painful and that is when the staff of the Grand Hotel showed what wonderful people they are. As one example, the night my father died my husband & I got a call at 1:30 am in the morning letting us know he had gone. We dressed & went downstairs and the night staff made us lattes at 1:30 am so we had something warm to drink & to wake us up for the drive to my brother's house. In the following days, the front desk staff was very comforting. When we had to make last minute room changes and rearrangements as family came & left over the next couple of weeks, they adapted marvelously. The morning breakfast staff (at the time) could see how distressed we were and they went out of their way to make us welcome and comfortable. The Grand Hotel met our every need and demonstrated what good people they are. Our difficult time was made easier due to their kindness.

Never ever again! Within 2 minutes of arriving the manager was knocking on our door stating he needed his tech to come in and look at our phone. Within ten minutes of that we were moved rooms. The toilet in both rooms made a loud annoying noise for about ten minutes after flushing it. The view from both windows were just noisy traffic filled streets. There was a long black hair on the pillow of the second room and the hotel was super stuffy. People in other rooms were fighting and screaming and the entire setup was just uncomfortable. We were placed through red cross and told our dogs would be fine because normally they don't accept pets but we were evacuees. Well the first night went fine but the 2nd day was not so great. After taking our dogs out to use the bathroom and my boyfriend smoking a cigarette we came back to our room. Within 2 minutes the manager was at our door telling my boyfriend we had to leave because of our dogs. Now mind you we called ahead, we are evacuees, and we had stayed one night already with zero problems. Then while they were talking the manager said he smelled smoke. Well he had just watched us come in from outside but my boyfriend explained he had just smoked outside and the manager insisted on poking his head in our room anyway. That was the second intrusion within the 24 hrs we had been there. Well there was no smoke in the room but he said our dogs were not welcome so red cross said they would find us another place. As we waited for red cross to call the phone rang again. It was the front desk. They were now saying because of "some incidents throughout the hotel", nobody was allowed to visit their guests. What!?! So now my daughter can't come have pizza with us either? After telling red cross how incredibly uncomfortable we fealt the told us they were surprised because the staff told them we were perfect guests and they had no problems with us other than the number of dogs we have. Well they must have forgot that we were evacuees and had in fact called ahead about our dogs. Between their comment of "kicking people out left n right" for smoking, their comment about "other incidents" keeping us from having visitors, their 2 intrusions in our rooms, and them seeming to be looking for any reason to "kick people out left n right", I will never recommend or stay at this hotel again. They are definitely not the kind of people you need around after just losing everything in a disaster. I hope they never contract with Red cross again

Disappointing stay Service was nice and it was clean but otherwise subpar. The shower was awful, the television was broken and the beds and pillows were uncomfortable. Plus, the description said it was newly renovated and it was incredibly dated.
