Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City by IHG

Great service and stay in downtown Great weekend experience at the Kimpton. I booked through the Amex Hotel Collection with Amex Platinum. Weekend rate was very reasonable. I received the $200 credit through Amex and also a $100 hotel credit for the stay. The positives are the location, room size, valet, restaurant and overall sleep comfort. The location right downtown is perfect. I had a car so drove in and out but also walked around to places like CUPLA coffee just down the street each morning. Shopping nearby etc. The room is large with the fancy Kimpton bedding, towel and robes. I slept so well. I also had lunch in the restaurant which was yummy. Lots of fresh choices and warm atmosphere. Everyone I talked with was very friendly and welcoming. The Amex $100 hotel credit included any room charges including valet which was a nice surprise. Valet was always fast and open 24 hrs which was needed after a late night back after the Utah BYU game ( go Utes). The only real negatives were the shower heat and window size. The hotel is historic, and while the rooms do feel fresh, nothing can be done about the small windows and small hallways. Part of the charm of an old hotel, but because of this my room felt dark even though I was on a high floor. I booked a king city view room. Also no upgrades available for me on this busy weekend even with the Amex hotel collection booking and IHG elite status. Biggest issue was water temp on shower. Warm enough to shower and feel comfortable but not that super steamy hot shower. The hotel did message me to confirm all was well with the room and I let them know about the shower heat. The service, overall charm, and sleep quality were big wins. I highly recommend this hotel. We will be back!

Comfortable quiet room in a walkable downtown location with excellent, friendly staff. Helpful friendly staff all around, quiet room with a comfortable mattress, outstanding morning coffee in a nice lounge, great downtown location that gave easy walking access to downtown sites. We bought the room package that included valet parking and that was really worth it...we only waited a few minutes each time we needed to call our car.

Beautiful Suite Overlooking City My wife and I spent the last night of our honeymoon at the Hotel Monaco in downtown SLC. We were warmly welcomed and promptly upgraded to a high-floor suite. The room was magnificent! The bathroom was marble and luxurious. The bed was extremely comfortable and promoted a lovely sleep. The windows had electric blinds which were controlled by a remote. It was a great experience and we look forward to returning in the future!

Is This Really A Kimpton? On arriving we sat in our car in a queue for 20 min in the driveway while no one moved.. Suddenly we were approached and told to exit the vehicle in the middle of the entry lot, scrambling for our bags and leaving behind several items due to the chaos. It turns out the valet is a contracted 3rd party and not affiliated with the hotel. So although I had called ahead to confirm that overnight valet parking and EV charging was onsite and secure,which was all confirmed in advance, that was not at all true. “Hotel” valet parking ($10 off if you pre-pay with your booking for a reason) is actually in city garages off-site, and the hotel EV charging is actually first come first served, which means you can’t count on it for a trip. At check-in we were wrongly informed that our booking was for the previous night and now our reservations was cancelled and we had been charged for being a “no-show”. I showed him my confirmation email stating that we were in fact there on our reserved date. He did not apologize for the error or respond in any way. He simply stood there typing for 5-10 minutes without acknowledging us or their mistake. He eventually handed us key cards with no apology or explanation. The room was tiny. Very basic. Nothing at all special like other Kimpton’s I’d stayed in. No cute pet toys. No wine. Just a very basic hotel room. It was not cheap for SLC but there was NOTHING special or unique or interesting about it. It had just enough room to walk around the bed. After the fiasco with valet and the check in, we cancelled our onsite restaurant dinner booking due to the terrible service and experience. We did stop at the hotel bar later and sat at a sticky, dirty, abandoned bar top for a good 20 minutes before anyone came to clean it even though it wasn’t busy and we asked several times. Still, the blue cheese potato chips are excellent and made in-house. So I guess there’s that.

Jeff is the best_ This place is nice! Great location. I’ve stayed here a couple times but this time I was happy to be there. Jeff was so nice and helpful. He made us felt welcome. Wish everyone at the front desk was as helpful as him. The other not helpful girl should learn from him.
