No comp early check in Overall hotel is very nice . Room was very comfortable and well decorated. I stayed on the 2nd floor . View is the freeway but you also see the ocean from the 2nd floor . My issue was I emailed the hotel a week before asking for an early check in due to a wedding I was attending . Wedding started at 3pm . I asked to be checked in at 130 and the front desk (male, early 30s) told me to avoid a bigger charge to wait til 2pm . I was confused , but waited in the parking lot (4 cars total in the lot on a Friday ) til 2pm . I checked in and was charged $30 for a early check in lol I asked what the difference was if I would’ve checked in at 1:30 and it would’ve been even more of a early check in fee ! Disappointed due to the conversation I had in the email with the staff never mentioned an early check in fee . I will never stay here again , I’m a Hilton Diamond member and that weekend would’ve been $400 a night . No thanks , no hotel is worth that much for one night . Instead ended up paying $231 for a Friday night in May due to the early check in .

I went to hotels in different countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Hungary, Iran, etc., and I did not have such The hotel services were very poor and of poor quality, there was not even a single slipper in the room to go to the toilet or bathroom, there was not even a single roll of towels in the bathroom, the windows were single-paned, and the sound of the highway prevented rest and sleep.

Will not be returning. First of all, when we arrived, there was no one at the front desk to check us in, so we waited approximately 10 minutes before I called the hotel’s phone number. A gentleman answered (it must have been a cell phone because you could tell he was in the car), he did not apologize for the inconvenience, all he said was “hold on. I’ll be there in a minute” which I felt was rude and unprofessional. But that wasn’t what upset me. We ended up waiting another 20 minutes, so THIRTY MINUTES total from the time we got to the hotel, to the time he arrived. Mind you, this was not an odd time—it was around 3:00 in the afternoon. When the gentleman finally arrived, he did not apologize, nor try to explain where he was or why he kept us waiting. Unacceptable. It gets worse. He finally checked us in, gave us the door code to our room, and explained how to get there, but when we got up to our room, it was not ready. The cleaning ladies told us it would be another 20-30 minutes, but we could leave our bags there if we wanted to go eat or something and come back. We did just that, but when we got back, our door was left wide open. Thankfully our bags were not stolen but I just don’t understand why they would leave the door open, knowing all our belongings were inside. Also, while we were walking down the hallway, one of the closets (where cleaning supplies are kept) was open and there were 805 beer bottles all over the shelves. Some empty, some half drank, but there were at least 6 of them visible to us as we walked by. The cherry on top of this whole experience was the dirty, disgusting room we stayed in. Looking back, I should have taken pictures but 4 of our bath towels had dirt and makeup on them. And our sheets had blood stains on them. There was trash under the bed, the floor in the bathroom was sticky, and the mini fridge had crumbs and spilled liquid on the shelves. I tried to voice my concerns upon checkout, but surprise, surprise, there was no one in the office/lobby to speak to. I hate to leave such a negative review, but I have never, in my life, stayed at a more disgusting hotel/experienced such poor customer service. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Surfbreak Hotel in San Clemente.

Disaster I stay in San Clemente many times and i thought i'd try this Hotel. The advertising is deceiving. They advertise down comforters, not true. they advertise ocean view. Not really. The bed sank. the pillows were hard. the TV worked but not the sound. Worst of all is there was NO HOT WATER. No shower before heading back to the office.

Oooohh that bed!!! This is our second stay here in as many weeks. My husband and I stayed here a few nights before going on a cruise. The rooms and furnishings are very cozy. Can't say enough about the heavenly mattress! But, the cleanliness of the room was very sub par. When we checked in we were warmly welcomed and he told us the place is under renovations, so we gave them a lot of grace. But DON'T walk barefoot on the carpet in your room..... filthy! After our cruise we needed a place for a couple of nights before catching our plane back to Alaska. Why did we come back to this place? Lots of reasons. First and foremost we were treated well by all the workers we came in contact with. That is a very big deal. Second, the location is fantastic! And last (but not least) the price is reasonable. Why only 3 stars if I like it so well? Because I will be back, probably before the end of the year and I am hoping that management takes our input to heart and makes a few adjustments. One area to improve is the coffee in the room. It's TERRIBLE!!! (We love the fridge/freezer! Nice size, not too small like other places). Another improvement would be the wardrobe/dresser. It may be outdated according to some but I love the style. However, the doors on the one in our first room were missing, and off the hinges in our second room. Definitely needs more hangers also. But probably the best thing you could do for your guests would be to pay more attention to the cleaning details. I'll overlook the cracked tiles, or the ancient bathtub but not cobwebs on the ceiling or over the light fixtures. And certainly not the filthy floors, my feet were black on the bottom and I did not want to put them in my clean sheets! Please work with your cleaning staff and help them do a better job. This lovely property deserves it!
