Nice, Clean and Comfy Hotel I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff is beyond helpful and friendly and the location is PRIME! It is only a few blocks away from the Gaslamp district, where you will find restaurants galore! You should stay here 100% for a more budget-friendly trip! p.s. I do think it's haunted, but take that with a grain of salt.

Teeny tiny bottles of water Pretty hotel in the gas lamp quarter. Rooms reasonably sized and nicely furnished. The bar is very charming. Room rate is advertised as including bottled water. The bottles they give you are the smallest bottles of water I have ever seen. 237ml. Teeny tiny bottles of water. Very odd cost saving measure. They also leave large bottles in your room but if you drink from those, they charge you $5.

Ghastly, not ghostly For a hotel whose main claim to fame is the ghosts, almost no one here has any knowledge or interest in the ghosts and their history. What a disappointment. Ghost hunters need to go somewhere else, like the Grant or the Cosmopolitan. Apart from their lack of interest, the many photos that adorn the place are without any explanation, so there's almost no point in showing them. Then there's the fact that the bar has been renamed, from the ghostly Ida Bailey to the ridiculous Salt & Whiskey. OK, forget about what a poor job they do with the ghosts, how is it as a hotel if that's all you're looking for. The rooms are small, especially the bathrooms. The towels are from Salvation Army and the in-house coffee is nothing more than colored water. The elevators break down every so often. Service in the restaurant is as bad as it gets. Sometimes no one is there, an d when they're there, they're not interested in serving. That's probably why on a Friday night there was almost no one in there. With all that's wrong with this hotel, why didn't I give it a 1 instead of a 2. First, it's beautiful. Second, the period furnishing are really nice. Third, the valet (Todd) knew a lot about the history and enjoyed sharing it.

Old Hotel with Lots of Character The Horton Grand is a charming boutique hotel in downtown San Diego. I loved the historical details, especially in the lobby, and the interior courtyard. The staff were also very kind and helpful throughout my five-night stay. However, I found the cleanliness of the room a little lacking. There was an unusual musty smell when I checked in, hairs in the bathroom, and a mysterious hat (not mine!) under the bed.

Vintage San Diego Hotel Spent a very comfortable week’s stay at The Horton Grand Hotel. When I checked in the only room available for the length of my stay was a suite. No complaints there! I had room 447 which was an off street room. Off street rooms are desirable. San Diego’s equivalent to Bourbon Street, 5th Ave, is a block away. Actually the Horton is far enough away that the noise from 5th Ave is minimal. NOTE: If you are going to San Diego, unless you want to party like a college student, DO NOT stay anywhere on 5th Ave. It’s nonstop spring break. Had co-workers who stayed at the Hotel Z. The front desk offered them ear plugs to combat the noise. The Horton is an old hotel. It has a history with Wyatt Earp, that’s how old it is. But it’s clean, the rooms are up to date, and the beds are very comfortable. The first floor rooms are street level. Literally ! Open your drapes and your level with the street. If that’s an issue, book a room on 2 or above. The hotel has a GREAT atrium which is ideal for pick up dinner. There are a lot of restaurants near by with take out. There is a Ralph’s a block and a half away. Pick up what you need and have dinner in the atrium. NOTE: There are some deli’s near by that price gouge alcohol, like $25 for a $10 bottle of Coppola Pinot Grigio. If you want wine or beer, pick it up at Raplh’s. There is a great Chinese restaurant at the corner of 4th & J, Shisan Fan Sushi & Chinese. Reasonably priced, delicious food! Highly recommended !
