Good value! Could be great with some extra investment at the resort and in the neighborhood. Good value resort. It was clearly amazing 10+ years ago. Today it’s still pretty nice. Shelter Island, where it’s found, could use some investment and help keeping the riff-raft at bay. With improvements on the island and a little investment at the resort to modernize it, the Kona Kai would be truly amazing. It’s just a little bit tired with neighbors that are not keeping up as well as the Kona Kai does.

Check your accounts As some other reviews mentioned, make sure to check your bill for erroneous charges. I had 2 extra pending charges on my account for a week. My husband spoke to a manager on Monday named James on the phone and he was very rude. James said he'd call back with an update on the charges and never did. Thankfully the charges fell off on their own by Saturday.

NOT worth the price. Hardly a resort. Paid way too much money & got nothing out of it. NOTHING is included. The rooms didn’t even have a microwave. If you wanted the water that was set in the room upon arrival, you have to pay $7 per bottle if you open it. The WiFi is only free for 24 hours. The laundry bags in the closet are over $20 for a pull string bag. The pointless plush dolphin they set in the room is $25 if you take it home. I could (and did) go to a regular hotel & get free water, cookies, snacks, free laundry bags, a microwave & a way nicer & bigger room. The “complimentary” bikes are only free for 2 hours. The restaurant is way overpriced for already paying hundreds per night for a room & the service is extremely slow. The pool closes at 10 & the bar isn’t even open on weekdays for the adult pool. For how much you are paying for a room, you would think there’s some type of luxury feel. There’s none. The staff doesn’t even look put together or professional. The uniform is a polo shirt. The bay “views” are nothing spectacular & are covered by trees outside the parking lot, not worth paying the extra money. This was for my honeymoon trip, & I did tell the hotel that, but there was absolutely nothing special there for a honeymoon room or anything. “Resort” is false advertising for this cheap place, might as well be a motel. Only positive thing I have to say is that one bartender & the maids were friendly.

A Slice of Paradise! The Kona Kai is a slice of paradise! The location, amenities, room quality, and exceptional service make it the perfect blend of luxury and casual San Diego culture. The Rooms: I booked two rooms with 2 queen beds facing the Marina, and I couldn’t have been happier. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless with a very soothing shower. The views of the marina from our balcony were spectacular. The Staff and Service: The staff at Kona Kai are phenomenal. Tiffany at the front desk was incredibly helpful before and during check-in, while Zach, the Front Desk Assistant Manager, warmly greeted us and made us feel at home. Jesse at the front desk was quick to assist with any questions and requests we had. Ray and Angie, the Front Desk Manager, ensured a smooth checkout process, with Ray also assisting with a discounted zoo ticket. Lawayne from room service was kind and courteous. Annangel and Alexis at the Vessel Restaurant provided top-tier service. Overall, an outstanding team! The Food: Room service was generous and delicious. The Nutella Belgian Waffle was a highlight, and the Vessel Restaurant's filet mignon was the best I’ve had in a long time. The Amenities: There's so much to do—bonfires on the beach, the pool, fitness center, and bike rentals—all worth it. The Location: Beautiful bay views in nearly every direction and conveniently near great restaurants and attractions. Overall, the Kona Kai offers a fantastic experience that’s well worth it!

Away from the congestion Our stay was quiet and comfortable. Nice view of the channel and yacht basin. Did not use the fire pits, but thought it was a nice way to relax after sunset. Room was clean. Bathroom outdated, with no room on the vanity for essentials.
