Try to stay elsewhere This hotel has seen better days. It’s clean but rundown overall, old and sad. The location is superb though, right on little italy. There’s lots of restaurants right outside. Try to stay elsewhere if you can, if not, you’ll be alright because it’s clean at least.

Here for conference. Porto Vista Hotel provides good value for money. Was here for 1 week for a conference, so had booked via the conference organisers. The hotel's main selling point is its cleanliness and this continues to be true. The room was spacious and clean when I arrived. One does have to request for housekeeping; I asked for this every alternate day. The hotel is in a good location (Little Italy). It is located about 3 blocks away from the trolley stop (the equivalent of a tram stop in many countries in Europe) and I found it very walkable. I was here for a conference at the San Diego convention centre, and this is just several trolley stops away should one decide to take the trolley up from the Gaslamp Quarter or Convention Centre trolley stops. Service from the reception was excellent. Thank you to Clayton and Lindsay from the front desk for making the stay especially pleasant. Shuttle service to San Diego convention centre was provided for conference participants, though there was probably a slight miscommunication as the daily last shuttle back to the hotel was before the ending time of the conference each day. The hotel has a restaurant on the 4th floor (Glassdoor restaurant), which will be reviewed separately. One potential consideration for families is the proximity to the airport. While the location is excellent because of this, the planes flying overhead are audible in the early mornings and late evenings.

Hotel needs some attention from their owners I stayed at Porto Vista Hotel about 10 years ago and really enjoyed it, so despite seeing some not-so-great recent reviews, I figured I’d give them another shot. Unfortunately, the reviews were right. From the start, things felt a bit unorganized. My first room was decent, and I slept well—until I tried to take a shower at 6:30 AM. No cold water, just scalding hot. A tech came to fix it but had no luck, so they moved me to another room. Room #2? The bathroom had a stiff sliding door—imagine trying to quietly wrestle it open in the middle of the night while sharing a room. Not ideal. After another room change that evening, we were upgraded to a suite (nice gesture, no extra charge), but the water issue? Still boiling hot. They do provide vouchers for a free breakfast, but the ingredients fell short. Instead, we loved walking a block down to Influx Café—amazing breakfast and coffee that truly made our mornings. At this point, I’m hoping for some sort of compensation because I wouldn’t stay here again. The hotel itself could use some serious upgrades—feels like ownership isn’t putting in the effort. Also, security was concerning, with no monitoring of who comes and goes from the street to the room levels. I really wanted to love this place again, but until they make some improvements, I can’t recommend it.

Would recommend Porto Vista for convenient and cost-effective lodging We booked a stay at Porto Vista for just one night, needing to overnight in San Diego after a week-long excursion to Ensenada. The room was spacious and comfortable, and a good value by prepaying the cost well ahead of time. By far, the best thing about Porto Vista is its location, just one block to dining in Little Italy and a short drive to the internatinal airport.
