Lush property; rooms could use an upgrade Nice facilities: the courtyard and pool area is lush- the koi pond makes you feel like you’re in a nice resort. The rooms could definitely use an upgrade - we had an upgraded room facing the garden but it was damp and very dark. Mobile check in and key was awesome- we went straight to the room after parking. The parking lot is huge- our room was at the very end of the hotel so we drove to the back and parked near our room. If you didn’t know this and parked right by the entrance, I can see how it could be annoying. The lounge and gym are at the opposite end of the hotel entrance. The lounge was available for platinum guests- the breakfast was basic (oatmeal, eggs, toast, coffee, yogurt). They offered beer and wine at 5pm for a couple hours too. It was a small lounge but nice to be able to access for drinks and a place to hang out. It’s right across from UCSD. You could also park for free right outside the hotel.

Damp like a cheap seaside motel If our room was an example, the rooms at the Sheraton La Jolla are not Sheraton-grade, but rather like a cheap seaside motel. Ours felt damp, was poorly air-conditioned, and included mouldy bedding. We were told that, due to Covid, there is no housekeeping service during a stay (although, of course, there is no apparent reduction in price), and this made the poor quality of the room feel even worse. As to catering, the Shooters bar served us a decent club sandwich, but the burger at the main restaurant was pretty much inedible. Breakfast was decent but expensive, and whereas many hotels provide free coffee round the clock, the Sheraton charges $4 for a pre-brewed take-out cup of barely adequate breakfast coffee. Most vending machines refused to accept a credit card. And since when did self-parking start to cost about the same as valet parking? One saving grace was the pool and hot tub, even though there is a strange 'towel tracking' system in place, linked to a room key. Renovation is ongoing, so parts of the grounds are like a construction site. Overall, though, this Sheraton feels as though its only concern for guests is how to get more money out of them at minimum cost.

Ok with problems It was an okay stay. It’s annoying to me that they say they aren’t cleaning the rooms daily because of COVID- still. However, in the room we had a used paper pad- an item that generally was done away with due to pandemic concerns. Inconsistent and annoying. So, I got a pad of used paper, but no water, as I usually do as a preferred guest. No room upgrades available either, they said because I had two queen beds. While the mattress was comfortable sheets were among the worst, very rough and scratchy. The duvet was so old that all of the fill, in both beds, was clumped into little balls we could feel. My son asked if it was cheep a weighted blanket- which would have been funny if it was comfortable. Otherwise, a good location and the pool area looked fine.

Clean and adequate Clean and nice. The grounds are pretty with the koi pond! Covid makes them not clean your room at all so if you are messy then you just need to not come to Cali. Covid is still an excuse for lack of customer service it seems across the US. Cali will open up soon

Needs overhaul! We stayed two nights in December for a friend's 40th birthday celebration. We chose this hotel based on price. Well, you pay for what you get! It was...old! We probably should have spent more to stay somewhere else, but we paid a pretty penny on a wine tour that weekend, so we wanted to be budget-minded about our trip. Luckily, we did not spend a whole lot of time at the hotel due to the birthday festivities. The hotel grounds were nice, but that was about it. We wouldn't stay again unless the hotel rooms are remodeled, which there is a depserate need for!
