Good stay, cookie cutter 4 star It's hard to complain about the hotel- the rooms have been recently remodeled and it's in a good location downtown. I also found the room surprisingly a decent size considering it is in a very expensive city. The only thing I can say are the rooms are a bit boring and my walk from the elevator was surprisingly long. The lobby and valet area also get crowded (due to the nature of the hotel being enormous)

Go Two Blocks down Market to The Palace - or Anywhere Else I am "Lifetime Platinum" Member and a couple of nights short this year of being Ambassador Elite (which had we not had COVID-19 lockdowns I could have maintained and just called in about all this) - I stay at a LOT of Marriotts both "work-a-day" and upscale - so I thought "I'm going to be in San Francisco for a Landmark Birthday Celebration, why not give it a shot?" I used points for a low floor room, and was very excited to be upgraded (using "Suite Nights" which I have also been awarded) to a Junior One Bedroom Suite on a high floor with a City View. The View did not disappoint. It was spectacular. Housekeeping was also amazing (and very patient with some late exits from the room). The rest of the hotel I could have done without - especially the upgrade, which upon discovering the quality of the room was a bit of an insult - and will do in the future. Let's start with the M Club being closed - COVID-19 notwithstanding, if the restaurant that cost us $75 both Saturday and Sunday morning for a just "OK" breakfast buffet could be open, why couldn't the club where we would have been provided the accustomed (at our level) free breakfast? Sorry, 700 points is not compensation - and on weekdays we have to leave the hotel completely for breakfast (don't tell me about the Pantry - tried it, never again). Then there was the room. Not to be ungrateful, but it was no upgrade, and for what this room must cost those actually paying for it: There is a constantly recurring (late into the night) mechanical cacophany that seems to be elevators (guessing the adjacent service elevators). Try sleeping through that, even with the provided white-sound machine. The laminate floor is peeling up - I tripped on one section and hurt my ankle. There is at least one (possibly more) cricket(s) - on the 33rd floor?? - to fill in the silence when the elevators aren't running. In an already dark room, a number of the light bulbs were burned out - and they are in quirky, "designer" fixtures so can't be easily replaced by the frustrated guest when the hotel staff doesn't bother. And that entry way roomette! With no desk anywhere in the rather large suite, one would think a little office might be placed in the wasted space for those of us who need to get things done. I could go on but you get the idea. If you're going to spend the money, go to one of the other really classic San Francisco Hotels.

Very marginal “nice” hotel. Marginal is being kind too This is without a doubt the worst hotel i’ve stayed at that tries to pass itself off as a nice hotel. Stayed 3 nights and the maid service never came. When I called to the front desk they informed me that they don’t do that unless you ask. Well that might have been something to let me know when I was checking in. I mean a clean towel and amenities doesn’t seem like too much to ask from a hotel. TV didn’t work at one point, has to send someone up to fix that. No room service either. The services provided at this place would be embarrassing at a Holiday Inn Express. There are a lot of hotels to choose from, find a better one than this place because it’s absolutely subpar.

Great location Hotel is a bit old but clean. Location is good, you can walk to Ferry house, chinatown and even fisherman's wharf (20 mins). Bart exit next to hotel. Traders Joe and Target across the street. Will stay here again.

Very Large Corporate Hotel We appreciated the central location of this hotel because we were able to walk to various neighborhoods and to the Exploratorium. However, the Mission St. and Market St. entrances to the hotel were closed throughout our stay, so we could only walk into the hotel through the chaotic valet/parking area, which felt unsafe. When I arrived with my kids and extra bags (my husband had dropped us off and was returning our rental car) and tried to enter the elevator, the door closed on me as I was walking in and continued closing as I hurried to pull the last suitcase in. It shut on the suitcase handle, and the elevator went up without my suitcase. When I called the front desk to tell them about this they told me to come down to the lobby to look for my suitcase and didn't follow up at all about the malfunctioning electric eye on the elevator. I explained that I had just arrived with my kids and didn't want to leave them alone in the room. Eventually Security brought my suitcase up to our room, which was kind. However, there was no apology or acknowledgement from Marriott that it was scary. The windows of our room on the 32nd floor were dirty, and there was a balcony of sorts that was piled with what looked like old HVAC equipment. A staff person told us that the top floor lounge would be open to families Sunday evening 5 to 9, but it never opened. Finally, on the last day we had to depart before the coffee shop opened, so I made coffee in the room, and unfortunately the Marriott-supplied coffee cream was curdled/sour/bad.
