Well kept and enjoyable. Wife and I stayed here for two nights. I was a very pleasant experience. Easy online check-in and entry to my room using a phone key. I'd never stayed in a hotel like this and I really enjoyed it. Easy and complimentary soft serve coffee and water in the lobby. I felt very safe and secure even though I never saw any staff besides housekeeping in the middle of the day. I had a small issue in my bathroom that was quickly taken care of after texting the number provided. This hotel did not disappoint on quality either. My room and the lobby were better than I was expecting from the photos and it's in a fantastic location.

stressful, worse experience of my life. Run away, don’t stay here.
I just had the worse hospitality experience of my life.
I called the day before given they said they would cancel our reservation given a card issue. Since it was after business hours I had to wait until the next day (Friday) the day I was traveling, to call the bank. When I called my bank they stated absolutely No charges have been attempted by Washington Square Inn.
This was my first warning sign from the universe to run and not stay here, but given the Memorial Day weekend, our first time in San Francisco, our plane had just landed, we were concerned there wouldn’t be other hotel availability so we proceeded to try to stay here. The Inn had indicated to us someone will be at the desk to help us check in on our arrival.
There is no one at the front desk to check you in or assist you or welcome you to your stay. It’s beyond flabbergasting and confusing. Horrible customer service and no clear specifications on the website about the electronic self check in process. No e-mail telling me I must download and app to get into the room, I had to hear this information from another guest at the Inn.
When we got to the Inn, the front door was locked, and it took over an hour to get checked into our room.
I asked them to run our card. They kept telling me that my card didn’t work. When I called my bank to check what happened they said absolutely no charge had been made or attempted. It was not until we arrive on site were we able to get them to correct their computer malfunction.
The locals appeared to be un-phased by the self-check in process, which was equally concerning they put up with such mistreatment.
Then when we got to the room, the towels were dirty, the pillows were lumpy, and there is no deadbolt on the door to keep you safe from some random person entering your room. The neighborhood gave off shady vibes. (someone outside our window). I am from Albuquerque so this is saying a lot.
The Inn Keepers were so discourteous, when we reserved the room for 3 guest there was only 2 towels. When I asked for another towel. They told me to go get it myself. When I gave them feedback they knew 3 of us were coming so how come they didn't provide for us comforting accommodations with 3 towels. They tried to gaslight us and say that was not in our reservation. I have e-mails confirming 2 adults and 1 child. Why would I lie? again I am a doctor I have no reason to lie. I asked how they will make this up to us and they gave me no good response. How rude of them to not think of my child as a guest.
Charging us $240 a night, for them to do absolutely nothing for you. Outrageous and unheard of.
My experience continues to get worse. The shower started leaking. We didn't even touch it and it start leaking all kinds of water. When I tried to turn it off, it wouldn't turn off or on. MY original plan was to get into the Inn, rest take a nap, eat dinner, then get ready to go to a concert, but that was not able to happen given the un-working shower, the dirty towels, and the fact it took over an hour to get into our room.
How do you expect anyone to stay at a place without a working shower?
I asked them to work with us and give us a discount given the distress they have caused us. And they won’t. In fact they decided to steal our money and charge us for the room. As I went to the concert I left my husband in charge of finding us new accommodations as I cant stay at a place for $240 a night without a working shower.
We left immediately after the shower fiasco, as you cannot expect me to stay in a place without a working shower. I was willing to work with them to pay for the time we spent in the room, as I do not think its fair they are charging us the full cost given their discourtesy, shady business practices and lack of hospitality. The management seams unable to work with us. Any other hotel would reimburse you for the discomfort cause, but they decided to steal my money and stress me out instead.
I have never been more stressed out in my entire life when trying to stay at a hotel.

A nice little place in North Beach, no frills but a good price. I have stayed at this location 3 times over the past 15 years. This is the first time in a while, and it seems to be a little less than I remebered. The location is perfect but not having any staff on-site is a little concerning. If you are looking for a place close to most things this is the place foe you. The contact we had was attentive and helpful so that was good.

Could not have asked for more. Perfect choice for my first female solo trip My first trip to San Francisco was a 50+ year old female embarking on my also first, solo trip to the west coast ever. This hotel was the absolute perfect choice in the perfect location for me. Easy entry, they text you a code to let yourself in the lobby. My flight landed about 3 hrs before check in but a cleaning lady immediately asked my name and they dropped everything to get me into my room within 20 minutes of arriving. There is no front desk person, they text you a code to your room...all very easy to navigate. I did bring a small soft side cooler along because I read there is no frig in the rooms. There is an ice maker available though so I kept my pop in the shower in the cooler covered with ice....worked great!! Also bring with plenty of plug in adapters for electronics...this is a historic building so I was prepared but just FYI. The lobby has free coffee, ice water, tea and more available along with an ice maker. Overall the hotel was clean and had such a cozy vibe. Located in North Beach, easy walk to the Wharf, China Town, Coit Tower and more. Two blocks to cable car stop, bus stops and more. North Beach in itself has bars, restaurants, parks, and more within a block or two...so easy. Quaint neighborhood...LOVED IT. I stayed in the Junior Suite with a window seat overlooking the park and cathedral. WELL worth a few bucks extra!!! I would 10000% stay here again!!!

Cozy comfort in North Beach Cozy inn in the heart of North Beach. Many restaurants and bars nearby and a big green space across the street. Other than a cleaning person there is no staff on site, but that was not an issue for me. Nice lobby with a coffee maker and water. I feel at home here. One concern for anyone who may have trouble carrying luggage upstairs - no elevator. Otherwise a good place to stay if you want to be in North Beach.
