Both Grand and not so Grand at the same time! Now, please read my full review, because. although we only gave 3*s, more 2.5*s, we would return and stay here. We traveled as three couples, all with different experiences and overall we enjoyed our stay, its clean, the public rooms are plentiful, comfortable and welcoming. So, to make a difference, we booked normal rooms, D, B&B, via a travel company, who also arrange entertainment, travel etc. The room 134, was basic, but clean, it only had two sockets for the whole room, they were beside the TV. This caused no bid issue, except cables running along the floor from my breathing machine, you also had to plug in and take out depending on what you were using. Toilet shower, again was clean, but only half a toilet roll. This is when our issues started, I went down asked for an extra pillow and a toilet roll. Was advised housekeeping not on till Saturday AM, so a note was taken. Returned late afternoon the next day to my room, no pillow nor toilet roll. Went to reception, waited 20 mins, got to the front, to be told reception should have given me a toilet roll and she would chase housekeeping. Will mention the food later, so I said to the reception staff, in a nice and polite way, "between, other small things, staff interaction, toilet roll, the pillow and the poor food, I would struggle to return to this hotel", she replied, "sorry to here that, next please". (left on the Monday, after 4 days, still waiting on my pillow) The food, I would love to say you get what you pay for, but wait a minute, who has been to other well priced food places, the food quality is still good. Friday night and Saturday night, food was very poor quality, plus all three breakfasts, were poor, black pudding like a brick, rubbery eggs, sausages I do not even know how to describe them. Staff, struggled to find a friendly staff member. It was as if their default was not to be customer focused, not friendly. The odd bar staff were ok, but nothing to write home about. It was a shame, because the hotel is Grand, the public areas are well set out and welcoming, its everything else that lets it down, lots of small and easy to change things, which would make it a great place to stay. Big let down, there is only one public toilet in the full hotel, down along a along corridor beside reception. If you like us, were up stairs, in the function hall at night and needed to pee, it was for some a 20 min round trip. Even from the main bar, its over a 10 min round trip, not including toilet time. My wife has walking issues, the lift down to the restaurant was a struggle, we attempted to get it from the ground floor and from the restaurant and on each occasion it never came? So, why would we go back, the public rooms are great, the rooms are clean and its well priced. If we did go back, we would book the better rooms, higher price, but we would do that, plus book the main restaurant on the ground floor, with table service. It is a shame, please Grand, try and turn things around, you do have lots of good points.

Don't look elsewhere Only good thing about Brittania Gran Hotel is the location near the beach but its 300mts down a 1in10 slope about 5 storeys. Turkey & Tinsel mid week. Poor self service meals that make school or hospital food look great. Dining hall/restaurant was mouldy with 3 staff for 5 coaches ÷ independent guests. Swapped rooms 1sr night as toilet light was flashing only to be told it was reported last week. New room looked OK but when returning in evening stank of mould and bathroom floor sprung like a sponge. No other rooms available so moved back to original room and covered light with cardboard. Entertainment for T&T was disco & bingo 2nights bingo & a singer for 2 nights not as good as street singers around town or York. Despite rads being on 5 all day room never got warm. I could go on but *******

The Fawlty towers Disaster to say the least. Booked through Caledonian Food on the evening was something out of Victorian England , honestly thought the hotel was still stuck in the 1900s. Breakfast…was okay had worse to be honest. Entertainment _ if you can call it that, bingo £19 for the luxury not enough seats or tables to accommodate the volume they sold. Bar decent prices for a hotel can’t complain Now this is were it begins….. Room 231, went to get into bed and the sheets were blood stained. Then heard a gush of running water (thought it was the single glazing) Nope water running through the light in the bathroom at midnight. Went to reception had to wait 35 mins till a member of staff arrived in this time we had seen about 15 uber eats drivers wandering all over and various folk on different planets not off the reasonable priced drink either. When then someone did arrive he informed us he couldn’t give us another room as they “didn’t know where the keys were” but would provide a bucket and some towels and to keep the light on. Basil fawlty eat ya heart out Can see this one going the same way as the rest of the Britannia hotels especially with 413 rooms

At a pinch I'd stay again but wouldn't eat there again Hotel looks impressive on first looks but the it soon lost it's charm the main areas were clean was expecting worse tho to be honest the room was average with a good view of the bay was warm and the bed was comfortable but the décor and fittings were shocking most of the last 150 years the weather was atrocious and unfortunately it found it's way through the ceiling and soaked the bed the very friendly staff however moved us with no issues however the replacement room may as well not had a window in the bathroom as it blew a gale around the frame and was freezing. Went bed and breakfast and we'll the food wasn't up to it either the quality of it was awful but cooked properly. The worrying thing was the amount of Black mold on the ceiling of the main dining hall. I feel this hotel as charming as it's architecture is may be past it's best but again the staff were excellent

Do not reccomend Has to be hands on heart the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Broken main light and tv, mould on the floor and various disgusting stains all over the carpets. Black mould on the walls and peeling wallpaper. Extremely uncomfortable beds and pillows, drafty windows and can hear every bit of noise from people in the rooms upstairs. The main door to the room has seen better days as has cracks and the lock seems unsafe.
