Mediocre Stay Room was nice but a bit dirty. Floors and bathroom needed attention. 1/2 roll of toilet paper in room for 4 people on a 2-night stay. Had to ask for towels in the pool area multiple times on different visits. Pool very warm, almost hot tub like. Beds were comfy. Was double charged for the stay on my credit card. Front desk staff less than professional. Hotel is in a nice & convenient spot with food, grocery and gas options nearby.

Poor customer service and false information on their website regarding their partnership with Areoplan I wouldn’t ordinarily write a review on a hotel but I think this is necessary. I booked this hotel for a short stay on the basis I would earn Areoplan points as their website stated. I normally stay elsewhere. Upon check in I was told I would provide my Areoplan number upon check out. When I checked out the hotel’s system was down so I provided my email address and room number along with my Areoplan number. I called a few days later as I realized the points had not been posted, and I was told by a staff member that the hotel no longer participates in this reward system at which point I asked to speak to a supervisor who was not available. I attempted to call a few days later and left a message for a manager and to this day I have not received a call back. The point here is you can’t say that say that you participate in this program if you don’t. That is false information. It is stated on the Valhalla website that they are “a partner with Areoplan” and that you earn points in your stay. It has also been two weeks since I stayed there and I have not received an itemized print out my stay which I have asked for twice. If they aren’t partnering with Areoplan anymore they really should up their website.

WAY above and beyond service! I stayed in a renovated room that was nicely furnished and well laid out. The HVAC was a bit loud, but temperature was fine. The main reason for my review happened after l left the hotel. When going through security at the airport I realized I left my tablet in the room. I phone the hotel and they called me back within 5min to say they had found my tablet. Assuming at that point they would mail/ courier the tablet back to me, the front desk put me in touch with the manager to discuss options. Stephanie, the manager, asked when my flight was departing and if I would like them to bring the tablet to me at the airport. Not only did she offer to bring it directly to the security area so I wouldn't have to exit and reenter through security, she brought it herself! Such amazing above and beyond service! It is certainly something I would never have expected anyone to do, let alone the manager. I know where I am staying everyone I come back to Thunder Bay. Thx Stphaine!!!

Rustic in Thunder Bay The hotel is big & rustic and the room was renovated and comfortable. I ate in the restaurant and had an amazing charcuterie board. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Don't recommend this hotel Hotel looks good & is undergoing renovations, but the renovations are superficial. Heat doesn't work in some rooms, shower curtains too short, and shower heads installed incorrectly. Everything is being done very cheaply. Be aware that they will put a $250 hold on your credit card for a damage deposit that will not be released for at least 3-5 business days. Make sure that you are checking on this to see that you are refunded the money. I would not recommend this hotel for any solo female traveler. I did not feel safe during my recent stay. I specifically asked not to be placed in a ground floor "drive-up" room, as the sliding doors are not properly secured. I was put in one of those rooms because the hotel was full, despite having made my reservation over a month ago. When the shuttle dropped me off, the front entrance was blocked by individuals, smoking, who appeared to be under the influence - they were trying to coerce an Indigenous man to join them on the other side of the parking lot. There were loud vehicles in the parking lot most of the night. There were men knocking on random room doors throughout the night. Beer cases littering the hallways. Dismissive front desk staff. It will be the last time staying at the Valhalla - which is too bad as it used to be one of the nicest hotels in Thunder Bay.
