Bad AC fumes in room? I have had mostly good experiences with Hampton Inns, but this stay has me questioning whether I will stay in any Hilton properties in the future. Hamptons have been my go-to for business travel to smaller cities because previously they have been consistent and a good value. Upon arrival in room 331, I noticed an odd smell - somewhat like burning plastic or some weird cleaning chemical. I figured maybe a previous guest had some sort of mishap with the coffee maker or something. Over the next 2 days, I suffered from massive headaches that spoiled my Tucson visit. When I returned to my room the afternoon after the second night, the smell in the room was considerably present, and I made the connection that perhaps this is what was making me sick. I called down to the front desk and spoke with the manager on duty about it. She came up and observed the smell in the room - at first telling me that the AC unit "makes that smell when it's hot outside and working really hard." She then told me that she was going to check the room next door. I thought perhaps she was checking to see about moving me next door. Instead, when we went into that room (329) the acrid fumes were overpowering. She stated that the problem was the AC unit in THAT room, and that the fumes were coming into my room under the door that connected the two. I asked to be moved to another room, far away from 329/331. I was moved to 308, on the other side of the hotel. That room was fine, and I had no issues with feeling a headache/sick the final night/morning of checkout. This gives me concern about what exactly I may have been breathing in the other room. Upon checkout, I told the other manager on duty about my experience. I told her about the potential fire/health hazard that might be happening. She apologized and said she would "add some points" to my account. I didn't know what to say to that. A coupon??? The next day I received an email survey from Hilton, and related my experience/concerns. It was the weekend, so I could not call Hilton corporate to talk to someone about it. I received an email response, saying that Hilton was aware that someone at the hotel had been in touch with me about the situation, and they hope I was satisfied with the resolution. What?? I emailed back, saying that I had NOT been contacted, and that I wanted to talk to someone about it. The reply that I received was basically "we're sorry about the bad smell. Here are some Hilton points." This left me feeling that the company was really diminishing my concerns, and giving me a paltry discount toward spending more with them in the future was just not the right way to handle it. I called this morning and asked to speak with someone in the CEO's office, and was given an email address. I am following up with that. So, my piece of advice that I will take myself in the future - if you smell something odd in your hotel room, ask to move to another room immediately. Aside from this experience, the hotel itself is a somewhat dated property. The rooms are clean but old fashioned. The lobby and breakfast area are fine and what you would expect from a Hampton. The hotel sits between another hotel and a gas station/dairy queen. When I stopped at the gas station there were two homeless men gathering scrap metal in the parking lot. In retrospect, I wish I'd booked a room at one of the nearby resort properties.

Excellent Beautiful lobby area. The desk staff was friendly and offered dining suggestions when we arrived. Our room in the other tower was quiet and clean. In our 7 nights of different hotels this week their breakfast had the best bacon! Lots of seating also.

Average Hampton Stay Stayed two nights in March. Golf classic in town that drove prices very high. Hotel is clean but dated. No light in the entrance of the room and no fan in the bathroom. Stayed on the second floor and could hear every step above us and the door slamming next door. When AC was running, fan kept cycling on and off - only with the unit odd could the fan run constantly. Breakfast was limited.

Great Place To Stay We have stayed in Tucson many times, and this is our favorite mid priced hotel. Reception is always welcoming. Warm oatmeal cookies are available at the front desk in the afternoons. The lobby seemed to have coffee & tea available all day. Our room was large and included the bedroom combined with a living room/kitchen/dining room. It was spotless. The bed & linens were very comfortable. We arrived during a cold spell & we were pleased the room had great heat. The wifi was strong & parking close to the room was available. The complimentary breakfast had so many options it was hard to pick. The omelet & roasted red potatoes were delicious. The oatmeal had multiple tasty mix-ins. Other breakfast items I did not try were bagels, muffins, waffles, yogurt, fruit & more. The coffee was great & other beverages like tea, hot chocolate & juices are available. Seating was particularly nice with plenty of half booths like a restaurant would have. We happen to like an Italian restaurant, Giuseppe's, in the adjoining strip center. Being within walking distance of a dinner spot is another amenity. We were very happy here & will definitely return.

Overall a great experience but in need of bath update Notwithstanding that the rooms are "old school" design, my overall experience at this Hampton Inn was positive. Main problem is the bathroom shower area needs to be updated. It's still the old bathtub/shower combo with shower curtain. Also, bath towels are old and not very soft. Everything works fine, but it's time for an update. The bed was very comfortable. TV is good with lots of stations. The A/C is right next to the desk, so if you do work at the desk, you'll freeze when it's running. The workout room is smallish but really well equipped. I had a great workout. They even have a Peleton! Pool area is inviting and lovely. Parking is plentiful and free. Easy to get to this hotel. Once they renovate the bathrooms, I would come back for sure. Front desk service is excellent. And the morning buffet and serving area are large and well done.
