Better But Still A Drag I have stayed at this property many times -- not by choice, I assure you -- but because it's required for business. I've experienced astonishing rudeness from staff and had multiple other problems in the past, but that's the past and I returned with an open mind. This time around (July 2021) I found the staff considerably more friendly and helpful. But I still have plenty of beefs with this expensive property. The number one problem is their ridiculous charging-for-parking policy. This hotel is some distance out of town, in the hills, surrounded by golf courses and open spaces, at the far western edge of the Tucson basin. It's not LA, where parking is at a premium. They obviously provide parking in their own building and yet they still charge guests to park there. That's money grubbing and nothing else. I saw one sign indoors that said "Self-parking $5 per day," and a second one outdoors that said "Self-parking $15 per day," which is exorbitant. Which one is it Starr Pass? Out of interest, I looked at the rates for today (a Wednesday) and it was a whopping $339 for a mid-range room, plus parking and whatever else they can come up with. This is Tucson, Arizona in the hot, hot summer (low season), not Paris folks. Way, way, way overpriced, as are the restaurants. Dinner at hotel restaurant Primo was ~$60 per person WITHOUT alcoholic beverages or dessert. Dinner service was very good; the food was decent, but portions were small. Oh and I must mention this: I was at Starr Pass for a prominent international convention and both the escalators were out of order from the convention floor to the main floor -- for the entire four days. I appreciate maintenance has to be done, but does it HAVE to be done during a convention? So, to be frank, I don't actually hate this hotel like I used to, but I sure wouldn't stay there voluntarily. I'd probably give it three stars if they stopped gouging guests for parking. And, if you do go, be prepared for plenty of screaming kids. It's popular for Tucson families to spend the weekend there, so their overweight progeny can flop around in the pool and the "Lazy River" on hot summer days.

Bad Service The property is beautiful but the service was horrible. The pool service was so slow. Each time we ordered a drink it would take 30 minutes to get to us. We also never got a chance to eat dinner on property because they left us sitting there waiting for 45 minutes, with children, before someone finally came up and asked us if we needed anything. We just declined and left. We love to resort hop and always have a great time at the ones in Phoenix and here in Tucson as well. Heard so many great things about this place but ended up being very disappointed. We won’t be coming back. Also they don’t have any music playing at the pool so it’s really quiet. It’s very strange.

Beautiful I originally wrote a review and realized I was being petty, but after looking over my pics I decided to delete it because the good definitely outweighed the bad. The place is beautiful (lazy river overlooking the saguaros, hello?) and the pools are refreshing as well as being fun for both kids and adults, They have a phenomenal bar and what’s included with the resort fees is probably one of the best I’ve seen. The two things that were disappointing were the lack of food options during the week and the lack of cleaning around the pool. One night, the only place open was at the bar and the food was surprisingly bad. Primo was closed while we were there, and Signature Grill shut down early this one night. The lack of pool cleaning was the biggest issue. I understand that there is no way to keep a pool clean when you are booked. People eat and drink and can be quite messy, but there was a band-aid I saw two days in a row and eye drops that were there for three days straight. I would love to stay there again because I am positive these were oversights and I’m hoping it was because they were short staffed. But go and have a relaxing time by the pool. You won’t regret it!

underwhelming experience from J W Marriott Brand This place has potential but ultimately fails miserably in terms of customer experience. Hotel is located good 15-20 minute from anything else in Tuscon and it definitely is not geared as peaceful or place to relax hotel. We came her over July 4 weekend and sight of swimming pool reminds me of school of piranhas. There is no way all those folks were staying in the hotel. Super crowded to the Max! One of the major disappointment is Parking situation. Hotel probably has 60-80 parking spots for over 540 rooms. Rest of folks have to park at the street. While you may think, Street parking is not bad, but this is single main road to and from the hotel and you may have to park 1 mile away from the hotel on busy occasion. There is no other place to park. I had misfortune to park like this while pushing a stroller at dark of night. Hotel is 15/20 mins away from anything else in Tuscon and the food options in the hotel are very limited and same bland and over priced food. I found out same menu for 2 of it's restaurant and it was same again for in room dining. Also, there is no micro wave in the room. Hotel is designed in an awkward way and there is just lots of stairs for people with mobility issue. There are elevators but some of the access is only by stairs in couple of places. This hotel is definitely not designed for people with small kids too since none of the swimming pool have shallow area where small kids can go in. I asked the person who delivered luggage couple of question and his answer was I don't know. You could have at least say, I will try to find out! Besides that hotel is dated and in general does not look clean especially the floor carpet. The only two things we kind of enjoyed here is lazy pool and July 4 fireworks. Will definitely not come back here.

Mistake to remember! I can only give this place a 4-star rating even though it is really a fabulous place. For me, just staying here for about 6 hrs. only, was so expensive. It has additional fees for their amenities even when you really didn’t use it, meaning, just being here, something will add up to your bill. Picking this place was just a mistake for me. I didn’t read the fine print properly. I thought the price of $300+ overnight stay was for a 2 room reservation but I was wrong. It was per room per night. <smh> The worst part is, No breakfast and we didn’t even enjoy the place. <smh> In this place, you need to pay everything. If you’re not that rich, this place is not for you. I don’t recommend this place. There will be no next time for us here.
