Nice property and friendly staff Booked a room here due to proximity of an event close by. Initial impressions upon arrival was classy looking property, ease of access. The check in was very easy with friendly staff. One thing that was slightly annoying was the hoard of adults congregating in the lobby when others were trying to check in. The staff did attempt to have people move to another area but most were oblivious to those of us trying to get luggage around to the elevator, taking pictures of girls in prom dresses, etc. Not sure what was going on but it was a bit of a challenge. Room was clean and seemed in order. I was a bit disappointed some of the equipment in the fitness center was broke, and from the looks of another review last Sept has been for some time. 6 months to repair a cable machine? I was tempted to do it myself. I will say this has one of the largest fitness centers I have ever seen, so that was a nice change. I did appreciate the large parking lot and multiple secure entrances that allow one to not have to go thru the main lobby. Cleaning staff upon our departure very friendly and happy to see us/wish us a good day. I can't comment on the cafe or food since we did not eat there, but it's a nice large area and laid out well. We would stay here again. Hint--if you don't want to go thru the parking lot of the restaurant, take the back road that runs up behind the properties on the north side. It's a nice short cut to avoid all those cars.

Expected more from a 4 star hotel Don't get me wrong, I've been a huge fan of Hotel renovo. I've even written a blog/video review about my past experience back in 2018 which was very positive. However, this last stay was pretty unbearable. We checked in and noticed a horrible smell from the bathroom. We checked in around 3pm and figured maybe someone used the restroom after they cleaned it. No big deal to us so we went out and about thinking the stench would pass. We came back and it was worse than before so I figured it was some sort of septic problem. I called and asked to have my family be moved to another room and the lady at the front desk ( who was very kind and understanding *no hate to staff*) had mentioned at this time of the year the P traps get dry and it should only affect that room. Duely noted that maintenance had retired for the day. This was around 730pm We were moved to a different room on the second floor and noticed the sewage smell was there but not too bad. We went for a swim and of course full blown sewage smell again. At this point we just had to endure. Also, went for my evening workout and their primary machine was out of order. Looks like it's been that way for a while since the cables were jacked up. None of the clocks were in time in the first room or the second room. The analog clock in the workout room was completely broken and the pool clock looks like it hadn't been set to sthe right to for years. I know picking on the clocks is petty thing to do or gym equipment being broken and out of order, but I would expect more from Des Moines only 4 star hotel in the area. As the years go by, the feel of this hotel is starting to get dated. Especially the rooms. They still have TVs from the late 2000s/2010s. Very small 32 inch TVs with no streaming compatibility. For being a 4 star hotel, the rooms need an update, gym needs to be up to par on the daily and please fix all of your clocks. Postives: Staff was friendly and attentive and the pool is top notch. Entrance is very elegant. Conclusion: Too much attention on outward appearance - foyer/ entrance Not enough attention on the rooms and amenities for guests... odors, questionable cleanliness, clocks, fitness room. Oh and by the website your official website is kicking back a 404 error. We love Hotel Renovo and hope things make a turn for the better in the future

Wow! Never Again... Upon entering the room, there was a wood tick crawling up the wall. Didn't expect that. Welcome to Iowa, the Lymes State. Checked the mattress for more ticks, found a mattress with many body fluid stains... The room was so humid, the longer we were in the room, the more were becoming drenched in sweat. It was like being in a pool area, but on the second floor. Even turning the thermostat down to 62 didn't make a dent. The carpet had dirt and what seemed like crumbs all over. Wondered when the last vacuuming took place? White socks were filthy with just two passes across the carpet. Kind of a complete fail. Hoping we don't get Lymes from this stay. A worrisome sleep to be sure. If you have a choice, recommending staying elsewhere.

Meh! I am an I prefer member but the prices on the site were way more than Expedia. I reserved thru Expedia. I asked when I got to hotel if hotel was booked and was told not even close. I then asked if I could upgrade. The rep said I could but then saw I did not purchase thru my I prefer acct and told me I could not. This was super frustrating. The hotel would rather have empty rooms than upgrade someone to keep their loyalty? Plus $11 for breakfast?! A breakfast like the one offered is free at other hotels. There was nothing special about it except a waitress to bring our drinks and refill coffee….which btw she did not keep up on!! We had to ask for refills when we were able to find her and she was not happy to do so! Oh, and the creamer was expired, so that was wonderful, too. We were in a deluxe king. Very spacious. Bathroom is large and amazing. Plenty of towels. Air conditioner kept up with temp so that was nice! However, there was no body soap in the shower as the container was empty and the tv was tiny for the room.
