Comfort and Ease Very comfortable and spacious rooms, the hotel is situated in an ideal spot for touring the city - we could walk everywhere from the Cruise Ship Terminal to Gastown and beyond. It is also the ideal hotel for meeting up with your Rocky Mountaineer tour, or for other local tours around Vancouver. An added bonus was seeing the hotel dogs - we were missing our own dog back in Australia!

Home away from home. This trip all started because my love and I needed an escape from work and the Praries over a long weekend. We decided on exploring Vancouver for 4 days. Let me start by saying that after how well the Fairmont Chateau Whistler took care of us when we were married during the pandemic we thought we would stay at a Fairmont in Vancouver. We chose the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver because the architecture reminded us of the Fort Garry Hotel in our home town of Winnipeg. Then we decided to splurged a bit and stayed on the gold floor. It was the right choice. Even before arriving the Gold floor staff helped me with my requests to make the trip a little more special. When we arrived during the beginning of the long weekend it was chaos from the airport to the Hotel but we got our luggage up to the gold floor and grabbed a change of cycling clothes to go and prepared to go down the street to Cycle City for our rentals. But before we could leave the floor a dashing young man, Mr. Raunaq Bachhal, came up and greeted me and my love by name. He had linked my cycling questions and arrival date to seeing us changing into kit. A little touch like that made me feel like someone actually cared about my wellbeing within the hotel for the next four days. After that the days were long with cycling, running and some shopping but each time we came back the people on the gold floor made us feel welcome when we stepped back into the hotel. Just like we were at a home away from home. Actually, all the staff were wonderful. Especially the bell desk staff who patiently stored our bikes and brought them up each of the four days we used them. Todd (I hope I have his name correct) was the best despite the constant chaos around the check in desk and the demands on his time. On the main floor two other bell staff gave attention that went above and beyond. One offering excellent alternative routes to cycle away from the pride parade. We went to the parade for a bit but were able to go explore the North Shore afterwards because of his advice. The second coming to us with bottled water after we had just finished our run and stepped back into the hotel. Small attentions to the needs of the guests that were greatly appreciated. Of course the gold floor lounge was a treat. But one thing to remember is that it isn’t a restaurant. It’s a lounge with a small buffet in the morning and snacks in the afternoon. An honour bar and vinyl records playing. Completely lovely within it’s limitations. If you want the choices beyond what they are offering you really need to be booking a table downstairs at the Notch8 restaurant. Finally, the room was so well taken care of. The cleaning staff were perfect. The tea and coffee were perfect for early morning caffeine fixes before our runs. The Dyson hair dryer was greatly appreciated by one of us (though it wasn’t me since I barely have any hair left. lol) The only small problem was that the tvs could supposedly allow streaming off our phone apps. But I couldn’t get it to work for me. To be honest it was most likely my tech skill though. And since what little time we had the TV on we were watching the olympics it was a moot point. So, that’s it folks. If you want a home away from home then this “Castle in the City” is a wonderful choice. Next time we stay in Vancouver, this is where we will be booking a room.

Dated rooms, stained carpet, slow service This was our first time staying at a Fairmont Hotel, we had heard wonderful things and thought it would be a very special stay (seeing as it cost >$500 per night). We had a wonderful experience at the bell desk when we dropped off our bags a day early due to taking an overnight stay on Vancouver Island before checking into the Fairmont. However, when we returned to check in on Sunday, the service was notably slow and disappointing and the rooms were dated and felt unclean. Upon check-in, the lady at the front desk did not inform us that our bags would be sent up to our room or that there might be a delay with bag delivery. We went to our room and waited for over half an hour before calling guest services, who assured us they would prioritise our bags. Despite this, our bags did not arrive within 15 minutes, prompting us to go downstairs to collect them ourselves. When we arrived at reception, we were informed there was a delay, but we insisted on waiting for our bags, which were eventually found within 10 minutes, and we took them up to our room oursevles. The condition of our room was below the expected standards for a hotel of this caliber, which was very disappointing. The carpet was old and stained, making us uncomfortable walking on it with bare feet or even socks. The bathtub was painted and peeling, the shower curtain had hairs from previous guests, and the bath drain was rusted. Additionally, the hand-held shower head could be positioned but wouldn't stay in place. The fridge presented another inconvenience. It was filled with "automatic payment" drinks that were charged to the room as soon as they were removed from their spot. This left no space for personal items, such as the milk we had brought for tea, which we had to throw away after realising we couldn’t use the fridge for our own items. In summary, while the initial experience at the bell desk was positive, the overall stay at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver was marred by slow service, poor room conditions, and impractical amenities. This was not the level of service and comfort we expected from a Fairmont property.

Zero complimentary services in this luxury hotel Enormous amount of cost cutting at this hotel. For what is supposed to be a luxury hotel, there was no concierge service to help with the luggage when we came in late one night. Had to bring the luggage up by myself. Secondly, I thought I had reserved a 475 sq. ft room with 3 beds. This room actually turned out to be 325 sq. ft with a tiny bathroom. There was no place to put our bathroom supplies. Had to keep them in the bedroom. Thirdly there was no complimentary service such as a fruit plate with complimentary water/wine when we came into the room. No complimentary turn down service with chocolates in the evening. The morning buffet was a separate cost of $36 per person. Good selection but I don’t want to spend $120 every morning. For the price of the hotel (which runs into the 1000’s of dollars) the buffet should be included. Fourthly no cutlery, plates or blankets in the room. Instead there were stir sticks (how cheap is that). No complimentary accoutrements in the bathroom such as a shower hat etc. No complimentary slippers. There were some bathrobes and they did provide us with an extra small fridge so I could keep snacks for the children. The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is that it’s centrally located. Bottom line - all complimentary services have been discontinued.
