Going downhill The last time we stayed here, a couple of years ago, it was a nice, clean, friendly hotel with a great oceanfront view. We were given a suite with a pull out couch in the living room, and a kitchenette. This stay we were shocked at the changes - I understand no more freshly baked cookies at check in, or yummy dinners and delicious drinks, but it seemed to be in a state of total chaos and disrepair. The lady checking in before me was asked “are you planning on staying the night?” Shocked, she retorted, “of course I am, I paid for the damn room!” A shirtless, mask less male with an armful of snacks cut in front of me in line, but a nice man opened up a new counter and offered to check me in. Our key card did not work, so we had to go back downstairs and get a new one. As we opened the door to our room, the weather stripping came off of the door. The room was tiny and cramped, had lots of bugs on the fort buried and ceiling, hairs on the bedspread, but the balcony with the ocean view was there! We stepped outside to admire the view, and were greeted by loud music and the smell of marijuana from the next balcony. Luckily, it stopped before midnight. As there were no parking spots available, my husband had to drive to the parking deck, where homeless people were sleeping in the available spots. We were charged $10/day for this. All in all, not sure it was worth over $700 for 2 nights. Not sure we will return.

Great Place for Price We stopped at this hotel for our first stop on the way down to Floridafrom New York City. It was very clean and the rooms were nice. Access to the beach was quick and easy. Pretty centrally located as well. Only complaint was that the bathroom was a little dark and glum, but again fairly clean.

Parking Situation is Awful While this hotel provided me the space I needed to work remotely during the day and visit with local family at night, the parking situation is completely unacceptable. The lot at this beachfront hotel is very small and was always full even though I was there during off-season. They offer over-flow parking at a garage that is on 26th street. 26th street is essentially a very poorly lit alley. The garage is a homeless camping area and I encountered a group of about 8 - 10 people setting up camp at 4:30 on a Tuesday afternoon. Piles of trash bags and blankets were everywhere including right in front of my car. Between that and the criminal activity on that dark street at night, it was very scary and I left my car at my son's house 25 minutes away and he picked me up each day and drove me back to the hotel each night. I understand that Marriott can't control the criminal activity in the area, but I think it's important especially for single women who travel to know that this hotel does not have the ability to offer you a safe parking situation. Springhill Suites further south on the strip is a much better option since they have an attached parking garage.

Wow, what a place! This Mariott is right on the beach. The view is magnificent and the accommodation the best. On the 9th floor overlooking the boardwalk, horses below in a corral, beautiful weather so what more could you ask for! First time on Virginia Beach and won’t be the last.
