IS THIS REALLY A MARRIOTT??! On a recent CA Coast road trip, we stayed at 8 hotels, and this hotel ended up being our least favorite. We stopped in Walnut Creek for 2 nights to see friends, and were expecting this to be the best hotel, it being a "Marriott". Check-in & Parking: When we arrived, we weren't sure we were at the entrance to the hotel=no good signage. When we checked in, there were 2 people at a very small desk--it looked like a side or back entrance. We had to come back after being given our parking pass to ask where the elevators in the underground parking lot were, so we could take our luggage to the room. We were informed that there were no elevators in the parking lot. I asked how we could get our luggage to the room...were there bellhops, per chance? No, no bellboys, and no valet parking. So, I asked, we have to park in the underground parking lot, schlep our luggage up a ramp, into the hotel and then into the elevators? Yes. There was no offer to help us with the luggage, and neither front desk clerk pointed out that there were luggage carts outside. I found them outside myself against a wall, and let my friend park while I brought the luggage up. Restaurant: Is there a restaurant here? We saw one that had a closed sign on it, and a tiny cafe with hardly any pre-packaged food in it. We heard some people at check-in saying they better grab the salads because there were only a few left! Gym: Ah, this seems to be what this hotel is all about. They have a huge gym that apparently half of Walnut Creek comes to. This seems to be the focus of the place, so maybe they should get rid of the hotel part, and make the whole thing a gym. However, my travel buddy went to use the Jacuzzi and sauna, and could not find a towel, or an attendant in the locker room, to save his life! He ended up hunting around and finally found a face towel to dry off after his shower! Pool: Ha, ha! The website says they have 3 pools. Okay, one is kiddie pool, the 2nd only has swimming lanes (Note: catering to the gym folks again), and the 3rd is where everyone else is crowded into, including the kids who should be at the kiddie pool. We were so looking forward to swimming but that 1 pool was always full. Room: Hmmm...this was the breaking point. The room was decent sized with a huge bathroom. Unfortunately, the carpet was dirty and the furniture worn. Worst of all, was a large smear of bird poop down the window! Ugh, it was foul. I tried to use the coffee machine and there was no available plug in the room, so took it into the bathroom. It was pointless because the coffee was undrinkable....God knows how long that coffee had been sitting there...it was really bad. Housekeeping: Is non-existent! When we got back to our room on day 2, we were surprised that the room was not made up. I called the front desk and was told we were to tell them we wanted the room made up 24 hours before. I told them this would have been great info to have been told at check-in. The incompetent on the phone asked if I wanted the room made up the next day. I started laughing and said we were checking out the next day. I remembered an email I got from the hotel a few days before and went back to it to see if there was any info about limited housekeeping services...after clicking on 3 different things, and reading way down to the small print, it said if you wanted your room cleaned, you needed to inform the front desk AHEAD OF TIME...NOT 24 hours before. Hmmmm. The best thing I read was if you had an extended stay, Housekeeping would be by on the 6th day to clean! Ugh! In 2 nights, the tiny trashcans they gave us were overflowing and we are very neat people. My friend refused to leave a tip for Housekeeping, something I've never seen him do in 18 years of traveling together. Overall: Oh, what a letdown! We have stayed at several Marriott Hotels at conferences and even internationally (a fabulous one in Lisbon comes to mind). We are supposed to stay at a Marriott in Dubai in December. Now I'm questioning if we should change hotels to a non-Marriott hotel! ONE last thing...why are there so few reviews for 2021?!

Wonderful hotel with amazing staff We spent my son’s weekend at the hotel and they were so nice to us. The rooms are fantastic. They upgraded us for his birthday and it was the nicest suite we’ve ever stayed in. Our son took a bath with grandma because the tub was so big and it had a window that opened into the room so he had so much fun opening and closing it. They have exercise equipment in the rooms. The bath products are aveda. The club has 3 amazing pools and outdoor exercise and a video game room. Fantastic! We are going again this weekend. Staff was phenomenal. Everyone at front desk was so nice and the woman at Starbucks was so sweet.! Hidden gem of a hotel!!!

Nice! My son loved the pool! I love the bay club gym! The rooms are neat and clean. They have nice robe in closet for you. You have to ask for appliances though—no microwave in my room. Restaurant had good wings and tacos! They have free Starbucks coffee and newspapers...it’s the little thing.
