Falls short of typical expectation for a Residence Inn We stayed here for 4 nights while we visited Jamestown, Yorktown, and Colonial Williamsburg. We have a larger family, so Residence Inns are our preferred hotel chain because we like the space and amenities. Unfortunately, this Residence Inn was a disappointment. I will start by saying that the staff, particularly the front desk, were friendly and helpful. Also, the location is ideal for visiting the historic triangle. But the cons outweighed the pros. The room felt small compared to others, and I did not realize until we arrived that the fully equipped kitchen in 1 bedroom units did not include an oven. No stars deducted for that, my fault for not looking carefully at the details online. The room is listed online as sleeping 5 and seating for 4; but we had dishes for 4, towels for 3, chairs at table for 2, and no sheets for the sofa bed. The front desk said they would send up sheets, but after almost half an hour of kids waiting to go to bed I called again and was told they were waiting for the sheets to finish in the dryer before they could bring them. They did finally arrive. The kitchen was minimally equipped (no measuring cups for dry or liquid, only 1 pan, etc.) Several dishes in the cabinet were dirty with food stuck on them, and the coffee maker had definitely seen better days. There is no safe in the room. The basic cleaning appeared to have been done, but corners and door frames showed that more thorough cleaning had certainly not happened for a while. The room was noisy to sleep in, with vibrating noises all the time in the ceiling and something occasionally causing the large mirror over the sink to vibrate loudly enough to wake us. The breakfast offerings were pretty slim, and no coffee was available in the lobby outside of the breakfast service time. As I said, if you are aware or not bothered by those little things, the location is perfect. Just know what you are getting.

Pet friendly but not so people friendly We were at the hotel for 5 nights. For two of them, our son, his wife and their dog were in the suite next door. To be near them, we were on a floor filled with pets. Some of them did not have very good manners or were left alone for long periods of time. I would bark and howl too, but it was not pleasant for the human occupants. Getting into our room was quite the challenge. I couldn't do it. My husband had to kick the bottom of the door forcefully each time we wanted to go in. At first, we also had a hard time getting out. Since our telephone was broken and detached from the wall, I had to walk to the front desk to get help. Maintenance came and banged about on the door frame a bit and that allowed me to be able to exit the room. Because we wanted to spend time with our family, we did not ask him back to fix it properly. The suite was very dimly lighted especially in the kitchen. The kitchen did not have dishwasher detergent. Back to the desk. A note in the room told us to put dirty linen in the provided bag and put the bag outside the door for replacement. We didn't have one so it was back to the desk. They didn't know what I was talking about and told me just to leave linens outside the door. Soon, our trash can was overflowing. There were no spare bags. Guess what? It was back to the desk yet again. This may not be the best way to cut down contact! Breakfast was unusual. I would have loved to have the yogurt mentioned by a previous reviewer. You order on "your" phone the night before. If you are gluten or wheat free your options are a piece of fruit and fruit juice or a tiny bottle of water. I know the pandemic is challenging hotels to stay safe and this was certainly a reasonable option. The best part of the stay was that we used Marriott points! If I had paid for it, it would have cost quite a lot.

Good Location but Poor Service As a titanium Marriott member I requested a 2 PM early check in instead of 4 PM. As my wife sat in the lobby for two hours, they finally let us into the room at 4. Thanks for nothing. Because of the Covid, the hotel doesn't have all the bells and whistles you would expect. The breakfast was unavailable and was requested. You receive a frozen apple danish, oj, and yogurt. We've booked into this hotel on different occasions and have never had a 4 or 5 star experience. When my wife's sister visits we like to get a two bedroom suite. If we find another hotel that has a 2 bed suite, goodby to Residence Inn forever.

Disappointed with this Stay We have stayed at this Residence Inn several times and always had good experiences. We like that they are pet friendly and have accepted the fact that they charge a $100 non refundable fee for bringing a pet. Yet, with our last stay, it was obvious that the room had not been cleaned anywhere near the current COVID standards (or even just normal standards). There was an ibuprofen pill lying on the floor and hair on the bathroom floor. You can bet that if they did not clean effectively enough to get a pill and some hair off the floor, they probably did not sanitize up to current standards. What makes it all the more painful was that I was paying a $100 dollar pet fee that I always assumed was for extra cleaning after a pet stays in a room. Now, it just seems like a big money grab. Our pet has never had an indoor accident and does not even shed. Looking at other reviews here, it appears that cleaning is not a priority at this location. It's a shame because we have enjoyed staying here.
