Horrible. While the views are nice of the valley, this lodge is way overrated for what it is. There is no spa to speak of. The restaurant where I ordered a steak dinner was mediocre. My meal was 2 hours late even though my server profusely apologized. All in all, I personally would never come back. I think if you ask around town about this lodge, the locals will give you the truth: stay away, you won't get your money back or your money's worth.

The lodge has gone downhill since 2021 We last visited Sun Mountain Lodge in October 2021. Our experience then was phenomenal with dining, service and hospitality excellent. We found the current lodge experience a definite poor experience. Aside from breakfast we would suggest dining elsewhere, which means a minimum 50 minute drive back and forth to either Twisp or Winthrop. The main dining room is only open from Thursday through Saturday. We had one dinner and one lunch in the bar restaurant. Both were very poor experiences., Th e lack of service staff meant long waits to order and very long waits to get your food and long waits to pay. The food was OK at best. For the meal prices one would expect a much better experience and menu selection. I don't fault the service staff as much as management who appear to be operating with a skeleton staff. Also be aware that you must request daily housekeeping. The front desk are to make you aware of this at check in. Ours did not and we did not read the counter sign referencing housekeeping on request. For the room price we will not return unless they completely improve their service.

Exceptional customer service in a bend.. We needed a roll-over bed to sleep one extra person in a king bedroom. When there was no staff available late night to get the roll-over, Sun Mountain Lodge went above and beyond to accommodate an empty adjacent room. Do note that this is not a busy day, but still, this was great customer service. This was our second visit in 2 years, and we will be returning soon... The breakfast service was great; not over priced given it is a tourist spot, and brunch items were savory (not bland at all). The tranquility of the hot tub and swimming pool area between Gardner and Robinson needs to be experienced... And, I got amazing astrography pics...

Great Lodge. Beautiful Location Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay. The staff was terrific, and the lodge was, as always, in a great location, the grounds well kept. A few things need improvement, and we have made a quick bullet list below. On a general note, we had trouble trying to understand what the new ownership is trying to create. It appears that they see the lodge as a retreat for young to early middle-aged urban techies. This was suggested by the investment in a new spa. For 65+ folks like us who want to hike, bike, and enjoy the outdoors, sitting in a spa, paying for overpriced services is not appealing when traveling to a mountain lodge. Perhaps they want it to be like a Swiss retreat. But that may just be us… The menus, particularly for breakfast were, well, weird. Again, we envisioned young urban vegetarians. We ordered off-menu both mornings and, apparently, so did others given that the kitchen ran out of crispy bacon the last day. Sous vide bacon? – Really? We learned as we were leaving that we were at the end of the off-season and the fine dining dinner menu was not yet available. The bar menu was limited. No fish, one steak, mostly sandwiches. The house wines should be reviewed. The service was very good but not excellent. Little details were missing – no salt and pepper at our table, steak served without a steak knife, etc. Additionally, not one dish came to the table hot. All were lukewarm to warm. But the waiters and bartender were all very pleasant and a little apologetic for the menus. 1) The rooms were clean but not completely dusted and vacuumed. We found someone’s dirty sock next to the bed. 2) We understand that staffing is still a problem, but the lack of daily bed and bathroom service was annoying. This is becoming too common in hotels. It is not going to save the planet to not make beds and replace a few used towels. 3) The mattresses sagged and need replacement. 4) Some trail signs are broken and all need painting or replacement. 5) The lobby store needs longer hours. We understand that would change during the season. Same with the Adventure shop. It needs more merchandise. 6) The 20-mph speed limit on the access road is ridiculous.

Oh, no! We have been coming to Sun Mountain Lodge for many years. Two years ago was our last visit, when we heard of the change in ownership. We were hopeful. Oh, dear…our room was spacious and relatively clean, minus the bird poop on the inside of our bedroom door. No soap or lotion in the bathroom. We are out of body wash too! No housekeeping attention throughout our 3 night stay. We had to go to the front desk ourselves and cart back toilet paper and coffee. Woke up first night. Power out. We came to the lodge and other guests let us know they were serving scrambled eggs in the bar. No staff addressed the outage or gave any update. The next morning, there was a scheduled power outage. Fine. __‍♀️ Food quality is massively diminished since we were here 2 years ago and in the many years in the past. Sadly the service is too. I could share more, but I think this is enough. My hope is that this is a transitional time and hospitality will be restored. Until then, we won’t be back or recommend to friends.
