The Manor Hotel

What a disappointment! After patronising this hotel for no less than 20 years, three of us stayed there again in August 2020 for four nights. On arrival, we were told there would be no room cleaning, due to the Coronavirus, which we accepted, but over the four days' stay, no toilet rolls were supplied, no tea or coffee were made available, and we were expected to wash up the tea-cups in the room in the bathroom sink! When we looked for a cleaner, we were grudgingly given only one toilet roll, and we had to empty our own rubbish bins every day. In the dining room, we received a surly response when we asked for an additional sachet of sugar (only one was initially supplied)) and the same res[onse greeted a request for extra butter or milk. The menu itself was repeated virtually unchanged thoughout our stay. Upon settling a substantial bill on departure, the receptionist did not trouble to thank us for our stay, nor wish us a safe or pleasant journey, she simply walked away without a word;. Whilst we appreciate the constraints upon quality of service imposed by virus restrictions, we nevertheless left feeling both unappreciated and actually unwelcome. My mother, who is in her '90's, was actually quite upset, and felt that the unwelcome reception had spoiled the holiday to a considerable extent.

This hotel has ceased trading We arrived for our stay on 27th December to find the hotel has ceased trading and is shut. They have taken full payment from us for our stay. We found several articles on the internet about others affected by this.

1 Night stay with friends My wife and I recently stayed here for a one night break with friends and were really satisfied with the accommodation. The room (20) was clean with clean towels, coffee and tea making facilities and tv. It also featured a walk in wardrobe and sensor lighting for both the wardrobe and the en suite bathroom which was a nice size. The room had a wonderful sea view along the coast and we were treated to a lovely sunrise in the morning over the sea. The room and the hotel were nicely warm throughout as it was bitterly cold outside. All the staff were very friendly and attentive on reception, in the bar and dining areas. The evening meal was very nice and good value, we had the chicken, ham and mushroom pie which included a glass of wine all for just £9.50 each. The wait for the food was not unreasonable and it was freshly prepared and piping hot when it arrived. Breakfast was also very good, all the tables had been set nicely and it was a buffet style arrangement. The food was kept hot, constantly replenished and the eggs, fried or scrambled, were freshly cooked by the chap on duty who was very friendly and efficient. We did have a drink in the bar area which was very comfortable with nice settees, and there was a reasonable range of beers on tap with one local real ale (from Wolf brewery on this occasion), my wife had a cappuccino. Check out was 11 am, so no rush after breakfast to get going. Overall we were very happy with our room and stay here and would come again.

Great getaway Had a Friday to Monday stay at the hotel, contacted the Hotel directly for a deal, very happy with the breakfast, buffet style , all hot fresh and tasty. We had a meal deal in the price and found the 2 course evening meal to be splendid . Hotel was very quiet ( Nov ) but staff were extremely friendly and nothing a problem. The bar was a bit limited but they said they were changing suppliers and it’s not busy so not such a great problem, we just visited the Haig club up the road a few steps away . This was our second visit this year, and improvements had been made since June . Great location on the cliff top , ample parking and a warm welcome. Certainly worth 5 stars as the price we paid was more than adequately met with the staff service and quality of food. Will return .

Not enough credit The manor hotel is a semi-modern hotel that still upkeeps the old original features. As soon as you walk through the door you’re welcomed by the lovely, bubbly staff. It made my wife and I feel so welcome. We were also greeted by a beautiful Christmas tree and a wonderful atmosphere. The bar was filled with conversations from local and non-local customers who were comforted by the lit fire in the room. The room was stunning with a beautiful sea-view, clean too. The food was absolutely brilliant, definitely recommend the pies and the sweet chilli salmon. The drinks were reasonably priced too for a hotel. Certainly been recommended to family and friends. What a wonderful establishment for the locals to have in their beautiful village. We will definitely be visiting again in the near future.
