I’m a teacher by trade, so I get to be around great teachers all day - the colleagues that I most admire do it like Jeff: they patiently and clearly explain the foundational concepts, demonstrate those concepts in action, allow their students to practice those concepts under their guidance, then give their students time to practice those concepts on their own.
