It worked. Just as described. I had to slog through uninstalling Microsoft 365 in a dozen languages, but then everything went fine. It startled me when the installation process said Microsoft 365 (after all that work to remove it), but when done I had Office 2024 as expected. I have not used it much since doing this yesterday, but it looks fine so far.
