Competition 1

Sales Automation Competition

Prize: $5,000

Objective
Automate the sales outreach process in a selected US city.

Tasks

  • Identify businesses in chosen categories (e.g. restaurants in New York).
  • Collect key business information (e.g. address, email, opening date, reviews, popular times) and identify the top 25% for outreach based on criteria like newness and unutilized capacity.
  • Automate initial email communication aimed at setting up sales calls.
  • Monitor responses and determine the next steps (business not interested, sales call should be set up etc).

Data Management
Maintain a Google Sheet to collect and automate data for each step of the process.

Submitted by Simon Rubin, an engineer based in New York, Quantum Coupon AI is an interface that uses a Language model assistant to automate common lead gen/sales outreach tasks.

Competition 1

Deal Improvement Competition

Prize: $5,000

Objective
Enhance the effectiveness of local deals on Groupon.

Tasks

  • Select random 100 deals in the selected Local category and download data available on their deal page
  • Find & download data for 100 great deals in the same category with high popularity (ratings, views, purchases)
  • Train AI with these deals to generate:
    • Improved deal titles and descriptions for better conversion.
    • Enhanced options names within deals.
    • Recommendations for Merchants on what changes in deal structure should be done to increase sales (price adjustments, options, etc)

Freestyle AI Competition

Prize: $5,000

Objective
Innovate with AI to create new business opportunities for Groupon.

Tasks

  • Develop a business idea that uses AI to enhance any aspect of Groupon’s business.
  • Build a prototype solution using a subset of Groupon data to demonstrate the idea.
  • Ensure the output is verifiable and aligns with business objectives.

AI based Email campaigns to onboard Merchants

Submitted by Vlastimil Vodicčka, founder of Czech startup Leadspicker, this AI based model extracts merchant from booksy.com and sends emails to onboard with Groupon.

General Terms

 

 

Reward
Win $5,000 as a prize in each of the 3 competitions.
Team Composition
Individual participants or teams of up to 2 members are allowed.
Tools for Inspiration
Utilize tools such as Make/Zapier, Google Sheets, Lemlist, Apify/Scrapfly/Crawlio, and Turbo ChatGPT to innovate and create.
Rewards
Winners will receive a gross amount, meaning all applicable taxes are the responsibility of the winner. For Groupon employees, this amount includes all taxes and insurance, whether paid by the employer or employee.
Eligibility and Selection
All submissions will be reviewed by Groupon, assessing if they fulfill the competition assignment comprehensively and reasonably. From those which pass, the most effective and innovative solution will be declared the winner.
Rights and Usage of Ideas
Groupon reserves the right to use any ideas provided within the competition, both internally and externally. The decision-making process is solely determined by Groupon.

How to Enter

 

Submit your entry along with all necessary documentation and prototypes to grouponinnovators@groupon.com.
Ensure your submissions are clear, detailed, and aligned with the outlined objectives.
They should include a link or archive that includes a solution description and steps to make the submission operational so that we can reproduce results.

All submissions should be submitted on or before January, 7th 2024, 6pm GMT.

Judging Criteria

 

 

Entries will be evaluated based on all the following criteria, with a higher weight on the primary judging criteria for each competition:

 

Team Composition
Individual participants or teams of up to 2 members are allowed.
Creativity and innovation
Assessment of the originality and creativity demonstrated in the proposed solution. A strong entry will demonstrate novel ideas or approaches that differ from traditional solutions to problems and use new tools.
Technical execution
Evaluation of the technical soundness and viability of the proposed solution. It should be stable, scalable, and efficiently use computational resources with as few technical limitations as possible.
Practical applicability
Assessment of the practical aspects related to implementation, including the simplicity of the proposed solution, estimated costs, compliance considerations and the time required for execution. Ease of use by those without a technical background is also a plus.
Potential business impact
Evaluation of the anticipated impact of the solution, encompassing potential financial benefits, time savings, and simplification of processes.

Legal Terms and Conditions

This page sets out the Terms and Conditions applicable to the Groupon Innovators Challenge, which is a free-to-enter no-purchase-necessary competition. This is a legal document which is the agreement between you (whom we refer to as “you”, “your” or “entrant”) and us. We are Groupon, Inc. and we are the promoter of the Groupon Innovators Challenge . We are a company incorporated in Delaware, USA with our principal place of business at 600 W. Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, 60654, United States (and we refer to ourselves as "Groupon,” "we," "us," or "our" in this document).

1. Entry to the Event
1.1 The criteria for entry are set out above. To enter this event you need to submit your entry with all necessary documentation and prototypes to the following email address: grouponinnovators@groupon.com, subject line Groupon Innovators Submission followed by the category you are submitting - Sales Automation, Deal Improvement or Freestyle AI. You should ensure your submissions are clear, detailed, and aligned with the outlined objectives. They should include a link or archive that includes a solution description and steps to make the submission operational so that we can reproduce results.
1.2 The event will be open to entrants beginning when it is first published on https://www.groupon.com/pages/innovatorschallenge.
1.3 The event will remain open until 6:00pm (General Mean Time) on 7 January 2024. Any entries received after the closing time are ineligible for consideration.   
1.4 Participation in the challenge implies full acceptance of these Terms and Conditions without modification.
1.5 As between you and Groupon, you shall retain all of your ownership rights in and to the content you submit as part of your entry. However, by contributing an entry, you grant Groupon a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable, fully paid-up, non-exclusive, transferrable, worldwide right and license to use, reproduce, create derivative works from, publish, edit, translate, distribute, perform, display, transmit, offer for sale and sell the content alone or as part of other works in any form, media or technology, whether now known or hereafter developed, and to sublicense such rights through multiple tiers of sublicensees and without compensation to you. You waive any "moral rights" or other rights with respect to attribution of authorship or integrity of materials regarding the content that you may have under any applicable law under any legal theory.  You agree to provide the above rights and licenses regardless of whether your entry is selected as the winner.
1.6. You represent and warrant to Groupon that your entry does not violate or infringe on the rights of any third party.

2. Eligibility
2.1 Only one entry per per person/team is allowed for each category. No third party or bulk entries will be permitted.  Teams can consist of no more than two people.  
2.2 Entrants must be aged 18 years or older.
2.3 Groupon accepts no responsibility for entries that fail to be received or delivered. Proof of submission is not proof of entry.
2.4. Groupon reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entrants. Groupon does not accept liability for any ineligible entries.
2.5. Groupon may request any relevant information it views as reasonably necessary to verify eligibility. Failure to provide such information upon request will result in Groupon denying eligibility for the challenge.

3. Winning Entries
3.1. There will be one winner of each event, whether an individual or two person team.  
3.2. The winning entry for each event is USD $5,000.
3.3. This amount is non-transferrable.
3.4. The amount is as stated and you are not entitled to obtain another product or cash alternative from us.
3.5. Should Groupon be unable to provide the amount as listed due to circumstances outside of its reasonable control, it reserves the right to provide a substitute amount or item of similar value without incurring any liability as a result.

4. Selecting the Winner
4.1. From the total number of eligible entrants, one winner will be selected by a panel made up of members of Groupon’s product analytics team. The winning entry will be the entry that, in the  judgment of the panel, best satisfies the criteria set out below.  You understand that it is in Groupon’s full discretion to select the winner and all decisions will be final and non-appealable.
4.2. Groupon will notify the winner at the email address they used to submit their entry by 11.59pm (Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time) on 26 January 2023. The winner will be asked to confirm acceptance of their prize.

5. Claiming the Amount
5.1. If Groupon does not receive the acceptance email from the winner 5 working  days after notification is provided, Groupon reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to deem the amount as unaccepted and to offer the amount to an additional entrant.
5.2. If the amount is not accepted by the winner in accordance with the terms above, Groupon may, within one day, select an additional winner via the same process used to select the initial winner. Subsequent winners will be notified as per clause
5.3 save that such notification may be later than the deadline specified.

6. Privacy
6.1. Personal data provided to Groupon for the purpose of entering this event will be processed in accordance with the Groupon privacy statement or as otherwise set out in these terms and conditions. We will only use personal data submitted for the purposes of selecting, contacting and announcing winners.

7. Other Restrictions
7.1. In the event of circumstances outside of its reasonable control, Groupon shall be entitled to terminate or modify the event or to modify these terms and conditions at any time prior to the closing date of the event by publishing any such modification or termination wherever the competition is promoted.
7.2. Failure to comply with any aspect of these terms and conditions will result in the invalidation of your entry. In the event of a dispute, the decision of Groupon shall be final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into.
7.3. Groupon reserves the right to promote this event on Facebook.com, Twitter.com, LinkedIn, Instagram any other sites and any Groupon-branded website, subject to the terms and conditions governing the use of the aforementioned websites.
7.4. Groupon shall be under no obligation to run the event or award prizes in the event it is unable to do so due to circumstances or causes beyond its reasonable control. You agree that by entering this competition no obligation on the part of Groupon shall be attached for such events described in the preceding sentence.
7.5. Groupon accepts no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant resulting from entering this competition or by the entrant’s acceptance of the award.  Groupon is always liable for: (a) death and personal injury caused by Groupon’s negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation made by itself; (c) any mandatory statutory liability; or (d) any implied contractual terms that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.  Other than as set out in this section
7.6, Groupon is not liable for any losses or damages you may suffer, including any indirect or consequential losses. 7.7. This event is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter shall not be liable for any loss, damage or liability caused by matters relating to this prize draw.
7.8. This event and any dispute related thereto will be governed by the internal laws of the state of Illinois, USA. Each entrant agrees (to the extent permitted by applicable law) that in the event of a dispute between entrant and Groupon: (a) such dispute will be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and (b) entrants will not be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waive all rights to claim or seek, equitable/injunctive relief or any damages of any kind, including attorneys’ fees, other than entrant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses (if any), not to exceed ten dollars ($10).
